Presenters
Sue Hill, Elementary Principal at Maryland School for the Deaf
Sue Hill is currently the elementary principal at Maryland School for the Deaf. She is a former Read‐
ing Recovery teacher and was a Reading Specialist at the Maryland School for the Deaf for eight
years prior to becoming the principal. Sue draws heavily on the extensive training she received in
Reading Recovery Training and from her experience as a Reading Specialist training her staff on read‐
ing strategies, prompts and running records. Sue and her husband are Deaf and have two Deaf chil‐
dren.
Lisa Pershan, Reading Specialist at Maryland School for the Deaf
Lisa is passionate about reading, making reading fun and teaching deaf children. She taught K‐12 for
fi een years before becoming a reading specialist and those years taught her that a deaf child can
read just as well as any other child. She sees that reading is not an easy task for anyone and loves
watching young minds figure out the code we call English.
