Winter Concert – Wet Coast Winter!
Get your gumboots and rain coats, it's going to be a Wet

odd (1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17) divisions will perform. Note:
If your child is in choir they are expected to perform at
BOTH concerts. An email will be sent with further details.
All Cameron students should arrive at school at 6:00 pm
and go straight to their classrooms. Audience members
will gather in the gym and the performance will begin at

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration begins on
February 1, 2017 for children who
were born in the year 2012. We will accept registrations
without an appointment, between the hours of 10:00 am
– 11:30 am and 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm daily. Burnaby
School District uses enrolment numbers from March to
plan for the number of classes and staff for the following
school year, so please be sure to register as soon as
possible. We highly recommend that parents register
in February in order to guarantee a space at Cameron.
A Note from the Cameron Choir:
Cameron Choir has had a great start this year! We have
28 committed students who come to practice with Mr.
Autio for 40 minutes a week. So far this school year
we've already had a guest clinician come in and we've
been learning a lot about what it means to sound and
work as a team. We had our first performance at the
Remembrance Day Assembly-we sounded great! We
also went to Lougheed Mall and impressed audiences
with our professionalism and sound, and we attended
the Winter Concert and a community event called
"Sing Thing" at Burnaby Mountain Secondary.
Later, we will be participating in the district’s
Intermediate choir festival. Phew!
We're a busy choir and we love it!

Cross District and French Immersion
Please remember that if you live in our catchment area,
you must register at Cameron School before applying to
any other programs or schools. This will ensure that we
hold a spot for your child in the event that they do not get
accepted into their preferred program/school.
Please note that applications for French Immersion and
Cross District schools are taken from Feb. 1 – 28. Any
applications received after the 28th are late and will not
be considered until all other applications have been
completed, regardless of which category you are in.

Pink Shirt Day
Don’t forget to wear your pink shirt on Wednesday
February 22nd. The original Pink Shirt Day was
organized by David Shepherd and Travis Price of
Berwick, Nova Scotia, who in 2007 bought and
distributed 50 pink shirts after male ninth grade student
Jadrien Cota was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during
the first day of school.
New School Phone Number
Just a “heads up” that Cameron School will be getting a
new phone number on February 9th. Our new number
will be 604-296-9005. Please make sure to update your
phone/phone book.
Preparing for September
If you know that you will be leaving the school at the end
of this year, please contact the office. If you know of
students that will be registering, please encourage them
to register as soon as possible.
Welcome to Kindergarten
Parents of next year’s Kindergarten students are invited
to Welcome to Kindergarten on May 22nd from 9:15 am
to 11:00 am. A personal invitation with details of the
time and location will be sent out to all parents of
students who have registered.
When to Keep your Sick Child Home
For the protection of your child as well as other children,
keep your child home if he/she:
 Has a fever
 Is too sick to take part in all normal school
activities
 Has a suspected or known communicable
disease (i.e. strep throat, pink eye, chicken pox
or any other undiagnosed rash). Keep them
home until they are no longer infectious.
Thank You!
Thank you once again to the Parish of St. Stephen’s who
donated $420.00 to our school in January. This money
will be used to support families who are new to Canada
with any items that they may require.
