You will first use a program that teaches you how to use a mouse with confidence and in the correct way. Basic Windows skills will then be taught so that you are able to access the different programs. The layout of the keyboard is then explained and plenty of exercises are done where we show you when and how to use all the different keys. All the major components of a computer are also discussed. Computer Literacy Computer knowledge required: None This is an Introductory course for people with very little, or no knowledge of the computer. You will start with Introduction to Computers where you will become more familiar with the mouse and keyboard, you will also learn about Paint and WordPad (two programs that come with Windows) and saving, opening and printing documents. You will then be introduced to the Windows environment, moving and sizing windows and the very important concept of copying or cutting information within one or two documents. You will learn about Microsoft Word, how to type basic documents, how to do spell checks, and how to change the appearance of text (including the size, font, and colour) You will also be introduced to the Internet and how to send and receive email. You start off with an introductory part where you will be familiarised with Windows by learning how to access the programs, how to work with a window, how to save, open and print a document. You will also learn how to copy information between documents. You will then learn how to organise and manage the files and folders on the computer by using Windows Explorer. Headers and footers will be helpful if you need information, (like page numbers and your company name, etc) repeated on all the pages of your document. With AutoText entries you can speed up your work by creating AutoText entries for all the words and phrases you often use in your documents. Tables are an excellent way of summarising information for the readers. Creating a newsletter will be easy after you have learned how to create columns. Adding pictures to your document can visually improve your document. Styles will help you to easily format headings in your document. Microsoft Word Essentials Computer knowledge required: Basic mouse, keyboard and typing skills with knowledge of how to Save and Open documents. This course is a combination of the most important chapters of the Introduction and Intermediate Word courses. The first four chapters are from the Word Introduction course where you will learn how to type a document and find your way in Word. You will learn how to replace, copy and move information. You will learn how to change the appearance of text (including the size, fonts, and colours). Then the next three chapters are from the Word Intermediate course and cover the most essential features used in documents, like tabs, tables, and graphics. PowerPoint Introduction Computer knowledge required: You must be familiar with typing, editing and formatting in Word and know how to Save and Open documents. You will learn how to create presentations in PowerPoint that you can use as a slide show which can be displayed on your screen, or be printed as overhead transparencies, outlines or printed handouts. You will learn how to use the drawing tools to create shapes, add pictures and WordArt that will attract the audience's attention. You will learn how to add organizational charts and graphics in your presentation. Finally you will learn how to run the slide show with transition effects. All the various printing options are also covered in the course. Excel Introduction Computer knowledge required: You must be familiar with typing, editing and formatting in Word and know how to Save and Open documents. Computer knowledge is required for this course. After an overview of Excel, you will learn how to enter information into a spreadsheet and to use formulas to perform calculations. You will also learn how to navigate in large spreadsheets and to freeze headings. The third chapter deals with columns and rows, including how to insert, delete and widen them. You will learn how to create charts by selecting the correct data, to modify the chart to display only certain information, and format the appearance of the chart. You will also learn to add other graphical elements in a spreadsheet that can emphasise certain data, for instance a circle around the lowest sales-figure. You will learn a quick way of entering lists and the correct way of sorting. Lists can be very long, so you will learn how to show only certain information in your list with filters. With a well-designed list, you can also create subtotals. Access Introduction Duration: 2 days Computer knowledge required: You must be familiar with typing, editing and formatting in Word and know how to Save and Open documents. Price : Access is a database program, which means you use Access to organise data in a meaningful way. Examples of databases include employee information, customer information, and stock – for example a video shop. You will learn how to plan, design, and create a database. Tables are the building blocks of a database, and that is covered in detail in this course. You will learn how to use Queries to organise the data in such a way that it is meaningful, for example a video shop can use a Query to see which videos haven’t been returned yet. You will learn how to view and enter information using a Form and also print information using a Report. Access Intermediate Duration: 2 days Computer knowledge required: This is a follow-up course of the Access Price : introduction course, and it is highly recommended that you have already completed that course. You will learn how to further optimise a database and more about the design of tables for the database including input masks, default values, and validation of data. You will learn how to create relationships between tables, so that you can get combined information from more than one table. During the course you will learn how to make more complex queries and also learn how to perform calculations using a query by creating calculated controls. You will learn how to add nice features to a Form, including combo boxes and lists. You will also learn how to customize a Report so that you can use it as a summary. Outlook Duration: 2 days Computer knowledge required: You must be familiar with typing, Price : editing and formatting in Word and know how to Save and Open documents. You will learn how to work with larger, more complicated tables. You will also be able to create predefined formatting known as Styles. Templates are documents that will save you time because all the often-used information has already been set-up (like letterheads). Mail Merge makes creating envelopes much easier. It is also useful if you want to send out personalised letters to a lot of people. You will learn how to insert Captions, Indexes, Footnotes, and cross-references to your documents. You will learn how to add hyperlinks in your document for easy navigation. Macros are recorded actions that are performed over and over. By recording a macro you do not need to repeat the actions many times but simply run the macro to let the computer do all the work. Outline view will save you time when you want to re-organize a document. Outline view is also extremely helpful with Master documents – where you can add subdocuments to a main document. You can also use this when working in workgroups where different people must compile or work on different parts of the document, and then have all the subdocuments in one final document. You will also learn how to add comments to documents. You will also need to know how to keep track of changes other users have made to the document, and keep track of different versions of your document. You will learn how to add organizational charts, graphs, spreadsheets, and equations to a document. Lastly you will learn how to create and use forms in Microsoft Word. Excel Advanced Computer knowledge required: You should be familiar with Excel and be able to calculate formulas and use functions – including the Sum, Max and Min functions. You should also be familiar with Page Set-ups, including Headers and Footers. You will learn how to customize the Excel environment to speed up the way you work. For example you will learn how to add a specific button to the toolbar, add names to cells, and to create styles for fonts you often use. Excel has many built-in functions, and some of the most important advanced functions are covered in detail, including IF and VLOOKUP. You will learn about errors and the Auditing features that will help you to track these errors. A PivotTable report is an interactive spreadsheet that you can use to quickly summarize large amounts of data. You can rotate its rows and columns to see different summaries of the data, and filter the data by displaying different pages. You will learn how to work with more than one Excel file and also create a Workspace file. You can group certain information of your spreadsheet by using Outlines. You will learn how to consolidate (combine) data and how to structure a spreadsheet for consolidation. Excel has tools that you can use to obtain a quick result; you will learn Goal Seek and Solver to do just that. Scenarios are useful if you have a situation where you want to see the result of changes made to certain data (“What if I increase my expenses with 10 %?”) and compare the different scenarios with each other. You should also be familiar with Page Set-ups, including Headers and Footers. Excel Advance is recommended. You will learn to create and edit macros. A macro is a series of commands and functions that are stored in a Visual Basic module and can be run whenever you need to perform the task. Understanding the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language is important, so that you can write your own code for custom functions, to display message boxes for users, add input boxes where users can add information and you can also test the validation of the information. You will examine sample code, learn how to create macros from scratch, and add your own code to previously created macros. The course also includes useful Excel features to include in your macros. You will also learn how to write code to work with different ranges, write decision-making code with IF and loop through code with FOR. You will learn how to make your macro available with toolbar buttons, command buttons, and Add-ins. You will learn the advanced concepts of effectively creating presentations in PowerPoint. You will first of all learn how to work with templates to speed up your work. With templates you will learn how to add design elements, like graphics and logos that are often used in your presentations. In this course you will learn how to change these pictures by taking them apart and changing the colours. Some more advanced object-drawing techniques will also be learned. You will start off by learning how to create parameter queries –more interactive queries where you can specify certain criteria for the queries. You will also learn about action queries that perform a certain action (like append or delete). You will learn how to join tables and create queries to get information from different tables. You will also learn more things that you can do with the Forms and to group certain options. Creating macros will speed up your work, because they contain repeated actions or information that need to be completed automatically, for example if you select a town, the postal code for that town must be filled in. You will finally learn how to add a sub form – that is a form within another form. Sub forms are especially effective when you want to show data from tables or queries with a one-to-many relationship. You will learn how to customize your form with different pages, how to add pictures to your database. The last chapter is a project where you build a complex database.
