ETMS 8th Grade ELA
Unit 2 Non-fiction Text Calendar--How much information is enough?
Dempster
Every day, from the time we wake up until the time we go to sleep, we constantly encounter new information. Television, radio, the Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, and advertisements all
compete for our attention. However, if we are flooded with too many disorganized fragments of information, our brains may have trouble processing those jumbled bits into one useful whole. The
challenge is to avoid possible information overload and to separate quality from quantity. One answer to this challenge may lie in the work that writers of literary nonfiction do--shaping bits of information
into cohesive, understandable wholes.
