Dear Friends of Easter Seals:
In 2015, Easter Seals joined in the national celebration of the 25th anniversary of the
Americans with Disabilities Act – the landmark law guaranteeing the civil rights of
individuals with disabilities. We were honored to feature retired U.S. Senator Tom Harkin,
sponsor of the ADA, at the Easter Seals Annual Dinner to mark this momentous
anniversary in Delaware and acknowledge the role that Easter Seals played in its
passage and implementation.
The ADA is truly a reflection of the Easter Seals mission – helping people with disabilities
to live, learn, work and play as a part of their community. With your support, Easter Seals
touched the lives of more individuals and families than ever before in 2015…more than
32,000 through both direct and indirect services.
Other notables about the year:
In 2015,
• Easter Seals launched a major expansion and modernization project at Camp Fairlee,
making sure that it will be there for years to come and able to serve even more people
with disabilities with year-round respite and recreational activities.
• The Easter Seals’ high school intern program for students with intellectual disabilities
tripled in growth, resulting in full time jobs for two interns. Meet some of our interns here.
• The inaugural Bill Adami Fund for Innovation award was given to help the
Children’s Therapy Department in Sussex County to incorporate modified “GoBabyGo”
cars into therapy, promoting children’s mobility, socialization and motor skills. Watch the

• Personal Attendant Services and In-Home Services grew by over 30%,
providing the support needed for people of all ages to live independently in their own
homes.
• The Community Outreach Program added respite services for U.S. Air Force families
with children with special needs, grandparents raising grandchildren, and families of
adults with intellectual disabilities.
• The CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge set a new record by raising more than
$400,000 to provide services to families who need them.
Easter Seals’ ability to help people with disabilities live independently, learn to thrive,
work with purpose and play without boundaries would not be possible without the
generous help of our donors, volunteers, employees and community partners.

Celebrating the Americans with Disabilities Act
at the 2015 Annual Dinner
Easter Seals celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Americans with
Disabilities Act by welcoming retired U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, chief
sponsor of the legislation, to Delaware as the keynote speaker for
the 2015 Annual Dinner. Former Easter Seals staffer, Fred Maahs,
related his personal story about the tremendous impact the ADA
had on his life. Now an executive with Comcast, Fred is nationally
recognized as a leader for disability rights.

Volleyball Challenge Raises Record-Breaking $400,000
The CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge soared to new heights this year, raising more than $400,000 in
2015 to provide services for children and adults with disabilities. “We are grateful to all of the sponsors, teams,
and volunteers for helping us meet the needs of people with disabilities and their families in our area.” said
Julie Master Grilliot, Easter Seals Board Member and Chair of the CAI/Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge.

Breathing New Life into Camp Fairlee
2015 was an exciting year for Easter Seals Camp Fairlee as we embarked on a $6.5 million improvement and
expansion project to assure Camp Fairlee’s viability and to serve more individuals with disabilities and their
families for years to come.
The decision to invest in Camp Fairlee was
critical because the camp is the only residential camp in our region that offers a safe and
accessible camping experience year-round for
individuals with disabilities. In turn, families
rely on Camp Fairlee for a break in the often
overwhelming task of continuous caregiving.
The Camp Fairlee project consists of the construction of a new health center, four new cabins, an expanded

2015 was the inaugural year for the awarding of the “Bill Adami Fund
for Innovation” award, in memory of Easter Seals’ late President/
CEO, William J. Adami. The 2015 award went to the Children’s Therapy
department in Georgetown to allow them to purchase ten modified ride
on cars for use in therapy. Originally designed by the University of
Delaware, GoBabyGo! cars increase the mobility of children unable to
get around, and encourage them to be more involved with their
family and peers, which expands learning opportunities for them.
Each year, Easter Seals staff is invited to submit
innovative ideas to compete for Innovation Fund

Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore’s third annual Walk With Me Delmarva event at Baywood
Greens broke records in 2015 by raising more than $40,000! Thanks go to the more than 31 teams, fabulous
community sponsors, and amazing volunteers and staff who participated!
(Left) Local actresses Quinn McColgan and Jillian Lebling, not only performed
at the event, but, along with their team “Walk on the WILD Side”, also led the
way in fundraising with an astounding total of over $12,000.
Special honors go to the other top teams, including: one of the event sponsors
David Doane’s team, Jefferson, Urian, Doane & Sterner, CPAs (“JUDS”); “Those
Slygh Guys”, led by 2015 Walk With Me ambassador, Ed and his wife Patricia;
“The B Ros Crew” and “Invincible Izzy,” one of last year’s ambassadors.
Thanks to Rob Tunnell and the entire PotNets organization for the use of
Baywood Greens for our Annual Walk With Me event, as well as the many
corporate sponsors who showed their support for people with disabilities
through generous donations.

We touch lives.
Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore
touched the lives of more than 32,000 people with
disabilities and their families in FY15 through direct and
indirect services, including:
More than 620 adults with cognitive disabilities who
participated in community-based services at Easter
Seals, including those in supported-employment and
community experiences programs.
More than 1,320 adults with disabilities and/or conditions
of aging who relied on Easter Seals for Personal
Attendant or In-Home Services to help with activities of
daily living, allowing them to remain living independently
in their homes.
More than 190 adults with disabilities who were provided a safe and supportive place to come each day while
their loved ones went to work or attended to other needs
through our adult day care services.
More than 438 children and adults who benefited from
recreation and respite at Camp Fairlee, including special
camp sessions for children with autism and travel trips.
More than 1,880 children and adults with a variety of
disabilities who received the services of our highly
qualified therapists.
More than 170 individuals who benefited from assistive
technology services at Easter Seals.
More than 1,020 individuals were served through our
Community Outreach Program, including our Resource
and Technology Demonstration Center, assistive
technology low interest loan program, the Caregiver
Resource Center and the Special Needs Alert Program
(SNAP).
Easter Seals indirect services benefited more than 26,515
individuals with disabilities and their families through
Easter Seals outreach activities such as education and
training, information and referral services and disability
education awareness.
