1)
Poem addressed to my upcoming career. Proud of You I want you to be good, But however you are I hope I am as happy as my childhood. I want to look at you, And be proud of what I am and say ooh! Hope you have fulfilled my wishes. And are working towards my goals And when the day comes that I finally meet you I hope you are like my role-‐model Analysis of the poem:One theme of “Proud of You” is the aspirations of the author about his future. This brief essay will explain
how “Proud of You” expresses this theme, through the use of style, poetic devices and story elements.
The poem describes how the author wants his future to be. It says that he wants it to be good but also
says he should have a life as happy as his childhood. It shows that the author wants to re-live his
childhood which held a lot of importance to him. Then it says he want to be proud of his future-self
indicating two things- one that he is not proud of himself right now and two that he wants his future to be
someone who is famous and rich perhaps.
Then he talks about his wishes and goals which is common for anyone. But then he says that his future
self should be like his role-model whoever he/she is, but he doesn’t mention anything about him leaving us
in a dilemma.
Discussion:This poem was about how I want my future-self to be. It mainly stresses on the character of my future-self
rather than what he is doing. In my real life I always wanted to be like my role-model. He is come past
many difficulties and what he is become now makes me proud and I want to experience the same feeling
when I look at my future.
I wrote this poem entirely on my own. It was easy to write the poem as it tells about the future-self of me.
2 2) Poem addressed to language
What would the world be without you? What would the world be without you? People would be nothing more than animals in the zoo. You connect us And you help create the buzz Without you there would be no poem to write And no story to tell No one to speak to And no one to hear from But most importantly I can’t imagine a world without you Analysis of the poem:One theme of “What would the world be without you” is the importance of language. This brief essay will
explain how “What would the world be without you” expresses this theme, through the use of style, poetic
devices and story elements.
This poem describes how the author sees language as. He feels it’s more than just a mode of
communication. He starts up imagining a world without language. He says that language separates
human from the rest of the species. By this he means that language has helped us so many times In the
past in stopping wars, in passing of knowledge etc. He feels that language is like a gel that binds all
humans together. The use of “Onomatopoeia” is evident from the word ‘buzz’.
He says how he could never be able to write or read without language and finally he gives up
imagining a world without language because he could never live in such a world.
Discussion:This poem was one of the most difficult poems to write. It’s difficult to stress the importance of language
and to imagine a world without it and write was highly improbable. I got the idea of this poem by using
“Reductio ad absurdum”. It’s a principle in maths which says when you can’t prove something then
disprove the counter argument of the same. I took a world without language and tried to prove to the
readers that such a world would be nothing.
3 3) Poem addressed to my Dad My Best Friend When I was young, you held me in your arms I could feel the tenderness, keeping me safe from warmth And when I grew up, you told me stories about life Those which I could never learn from a book You may have thought I didn’t listen But I remember every word as clear as a day Without you, Dad, I would be nothing But with you in my life I am so much more I hope one day you can look me in the eye And be proud of what I have become Analysis of the poem:One theme of “My Best Friend” is the affection of a son towards his father. This brief essay will explain how
“My Best Friend” expresses this theme, through the use of style, poetic devices and story elements.
This poem describes how the author feels about his father. It starts up in the author’s childhood when his
father used to hold him when he was scared and how he would feel in his arms. Then it continues when
the author was young when his father told him stories about life he could never learn in a book. He also
says that he listened to every word but his father didn’t know that indicating that they are separated now.
Finally he finishes of by saying about the importance of his father and hopes that his father will one day be
proud of him.
Discussion:This poem was one of the poems where I let my heart write the poem. I wrote about how I love my Dad
and how important he is in my life but I could never prove it to him. Hoping one day he would be proud of
me I wrote this poem indicating my wish. It was one of the easiest poems to write because this is topic I
always think about so writing it a poem was fulfilling.
4 4) Poem about the fantasies of mine
Dream within a Dream I see myself playing football In a Man United Jersey at Old Trafford I see myself playing against Rafael Nadal in the French Open final I see myself racing in an F-‐1 car In the Indonesian GP at night I see myself playing Basketball With Kobe Bryant for the LA Lakers But most importantly I see myself looking at the people I love the most happy And when that day comes all the other dreams within a dream would diminish Analysis of the poem:One theme of “Dream within a Dream” is the fantasies of the author. This brief essay will explain how
“Dream within a Dream” expresses this theme, through the use of style, poetic devices and story elements.
This poem describes about the wishes of the author he could never fulfil in this life. It takes us to different
places where the author wanted to be but could never fulfil that wish.
Finally it tells that though the author wanted all of that, the one thing he wants more than all these dreams
is the happiness of the people he loves. He completes the poem by saying that when that day comes all
the other dreams wouldn’t matter.
Discussion:This poem was about the things I know I can never accomplish. The title of the poem signifies that
accomplishing a dream in itself is very difficult but those dreams within dream are never fulfilled. I thought
of all of my extraordinary dreams and wrote this poem.
5 5) Poem to a first crush. Fear of Rejection When I look at you, the time stops I worry about nothing or care about none. I love to stand next to you at the topper’s ceremony, you first me second Probably that’s why I never tried for the first And when high school was over I was distraught as I would never see you again But when I saw you in college I was overjoyed But I decided that this time I am not going to lose for you And win I did but it gave me no satisfaction So I gave it up for you again as love overtook me again And when we finally parted our ways I never told you how I felt Because I couldn’t lose the hope that you like me the way I do if you said no So, I end up writing this poem Hoping one day you would know 6 Analysis of the poem:One theme of “Fear of Rejection” is love. This brief essay will explain how “Fear of Rejection” expresses
this theme, through the use of style, poetic devices and story elements.
This poem describes tells us the about the love story of the author. He tells us through this poem how he
felt about her and the things he did to make her happy. He talks to her via this poem.
He also tells us that he never tells her how he felt because he had the fear of rejection aptly described by
the title of the poem. In the end he hopes one day she will know how he feels and say yes.
Discussion:This poem was about an imaginary first crush of a boy in high school. I imagined myself in a position of a
shy boy in high school and then started writing this poem. I had watched many movies of this type where
the protagonist is very shy and doesn’t express his feelings. So I took inspiration from that and wrote this
poem.
7 6) A poem about my feelings while writing a poem Writing a Poem To write a poem I sat, With no thought worth a pat. For I had no skills or knowledge, So wrote an exam and went to college And found it was not knowledge that was needed, But just the will to write indeed Finally wrote a poem with a rhyme Don’t know if it’s worth a dime. saying he has no idea how to write a poem. But he wanted to learn somehow and so joins a college and
where he finds the secret behind writing poems. He tells us that one just needs the will to write a poem. He
completes the poem wondering how famous poem will be.
The poem uses “rhyme” – sat, pat; rhyme, dime;
Discussion:This poem was the most difficult one to write, partly because I had no idea what to write. I kept on thinking
for two days and finally it came to me that I would rather describe through the poem how I felt while trying
to write it. But after finishing it, I had a feeling of huge satisfaction.
