Parents Update May 22, 2016

Practice Monday – Friday 4:00 -6:00 pm : We will begin our regular practice schedule this week.
Practice will be 4-6 pm Monday through Friday. We encourage swimmers to attend as many practices
as they can. Over Memorial Day weekend we will be having practice Saturday (5/28) and Monday
(5/30) mornings 9:00 – 11:00 am. There will not be an afternoon practice on Memorial Day.
Practice Meet Thursday May 26: We will be holding a practice meet on Thursday during practice.
This will give new swimmers and parents a feel for what to expect at swim meets. We will need some
parents to help time this practice meet.
June 4 Swim Meet in Parkside: It is less than 2 weeks until our first swim meet. Swimmers will need
their own transportation to all swim meets this year. Warm up will be 8:00 am and the meet will begin
at 9:00 am. The pool locations, league rules, as well as the order of events can be found on the league
information page http://sealionsswimteam.com/LeagueInfo.html on the team website. The first meet will
involve at least 4 teams. The League agreed that since this first meet will involve several teams, the
Individual Medleys (and long Freestyle) will not be held so the first event will be the Medley Relay.
Practicing, learning all the strokes, and being ready to swim many events is the key to extending our 9
year win streak.
June 4 After the Meet: We expect the meet to end around 2 pm. Adjacent to the Parkside Pool is a
waterpark with slides and other attractions. As in previous years we are working on allowing the team
to play in the waterpark after the meet. Last year everyone who stayed after the end of the meet had to
have a wristband which required a signed waiver and a $3 fee. We will send the waiver with the parent
update next week.
Carpools: We are aware that some swimmers are having difficulties getting to or from practice in
Mammoth. Let us know if you are in need a ride or if you have extra room in your vehicle from either
San Manuel or Oracle. We want everyone to be able to get to practice. Also, since there will not be a
bus to away swim meets this year, it is important that we work together to get swimmers to the meets.
Registration during practice: Registration fees are $40 per swimmer. Swimmers can register at
practice.
T-shirts: Swimmers will receive team T-shirts prior to the first meet. Parents who ordered shirts will
receive them when they arrive. There are very few extra shirts ordered this year, so if you would like
one check with the coaches to see if your size is available.
