Message from the Administration:
Wow, what an amazing and rewarding year at ÉLUES! The administration and staff would like to
thank the many who contributed to a successful 2015-2016 school year.
In addition to outstanding staff, students and parents that worked so hard on making learning
fun and rewarding, there were a few other highlights that made this a memorable year;
1) The many service learning projects organized by each homeroom. Our students gave generously to Project Hope, Santa’s Anonymous, Terry Fox Foundation, World Vision, Central Alberta Animal Shelter, SPCA, Kenya, Ronald McDonald House, Heart & Stroke Foundation,
Stollery Children’s Hospital, Lacombe Food Bank, Lacombe Seniors Lodge, Big Brothers & Big
Sisters, Fort McMurray Fire Victims and much more. Over $20 000 was raised to support
these great organizations
2) The focus on building students of strong moral character was enhanced by anti bullying
presentations, in classroom lessons and daily acts of kindness in our school.
3) The amazing field trips across Central Alberta were wonderful learning opportunities for all.
4) The various extra curricular activities that our students had the opportunity to enjoy such as
music club, Drama club, leadership club, after school sports clubs, garden club, running club,
morning drop in gym time, cribbage club, arts and crafts club, Marathoners club, homework
club and so on. Plus the tournaments for volleyball, basketball, floor hockey and badminton.
5) The special events that focused on healthy living and community awareness, such as the
Healthy Living Fair, the Healthy Living Symposium, Wonderful Wednesday, Track & Field day,
many school wide spirit days.
6) The Peer Support team and the Leadership Team that do so much to make our school a safe
and fun place to learn.
7) The various opportunities we had to see the musical and drama talents of our students during
the musical concerts and Mock Rock.
8) The continued focus by the ÉLUES Staff to learn how to help students be successful learners. This year we focused on identifying instructional strategies and the elements that create an excellent learning environment. In addition we learned about the 21st Century learner
and how to use technology to enhance learning.
9) The Family Literacy Program that helped promote reading and family time. Thank you to our
community sponsors for supporting this amazing program.
The list of what makes ÉLUES an amazing school can go on and on, but what truly makes our
school wonderful are the people. Thank you to the students, staff and parents who make a
choice each day to live a positive, productive and meaningful life. Each of you help make our
school a wonderful place to work and learn. Have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation
and see you in September!

Marathoners’ Club
Mme Miller, Mrs. Armitage, Mr. Richter
ÉLUES is proud to have once again offered our Marathoners’ club this year. Approximately 27 students regularly
participated in our runs with the goal of accumulating enough kilometers to equal a full (42.2 km) or half (21.1 km)
marathon over the last 8 weeks of school. We ran 3 times a week, on courses that ranged from 1 - 4 km. Many students
also ran regularly at home - some up to 10 km a weekend! What a great display of determination from all these fleet
footed athletes.
On June 24th, our club completed our final 1500m together on the school track. All students who completed the
required distance also received a Marathoners’ Club T-shirt. MANY thanks to Lacombe Physio and ÉUE School
Council for sponsoring these great looking shirts! Another thanks goes out to the parents who came to run with us: Rory
Whitbread, Joanne Day, Tarina Hampton, Dan Hampton and Melanie Taylor and to our Jr. coach, Zach Armitage.
