Release Notes Product: Vision Platform: Chromebook Product version: 1.0 – November 2016 Updates Release date: November 4, 2016 Introduction Vision for Chromebooks will work with GSuite for Education domain activation both in subscription and perpetual scenarios. GSuite for Education (formerly Google Apps for Education) is a core suite of productivity applications that Google offers to schools and educational institutions for free. Vision for Chromebooks is comprised of: Netop Vision Teacher – the teacher’s app Netop Vision Student – the student’s app Netop Vision Student Extension – a Chrome browser extension to manage teacher control features. It is installed by default with the Student app. The student app will also handle the addition of the chrome browser extension responsible for lock web functionality. The student app will only work on a Chromebook device while the teacher app will work on any device provided that the device has a full chrome browser installed. Both Admin and User guides are provided for easy installation and use. What’s New in the November 2016 Release Filtering Web You can now choose to allow students access to certain websites, even if the Lock Web feature is active, by loading text files containing URI lists. By default, Lock web blocks all URIs and comes with a predefined list called Google Productivity Apps, which is disabled and contains Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Maps, Docs, Plus, Photos, Books, Accounts, Slides, Docs, and Sheets. To enable Allow lists: 1. From the main menu, tap and choose Customize Lock Web. 2. Selected the lists you wish to use. To add a new URI list: a. Tap and then tap . The Select a file to open window is displayed. b. Choose a .txt file and tap Open. c. Select the newly added list. 3. Click APPLY. Log Retrieval You can now retrieve the application logs for specific dates by going to the filesystem:chromeextension://<extension_id>/temporary/ address, where extension_id is the ID of the student/teacher extension. What’s New in the October 2016 Release Push Link You can now push a website page on all student Chromebooks by tapping on the toolbar: You can either write or paste a link into the input box and then tap Push. Student browsers will be redirected to display the provided page. You can also display Vision in full-screen by using the Fullscreen button on your Chromebook. By default, tablets display full-screen windows. Student Thumbnail Changes The following changes have been made for student thumbnails: Student Arranging You can move student cards by dragging and dropping them to your preferred position. The arrangement is persistent and, when using a different computer, it will be loaded the way you left it. Additionally, you can sort students by name, by tapping . November 2016 Page 3 of 4 Zoom Levels You can now choose the size of the student screen previews in the Teacher console, through three zoom levels. Cycle through zoom levels by using the Ctrl key in combination with the + or – keys (for larger and smaller thumbnails respectively). Using zoom in allows you to better preview your students’ screens, while using zoom out allows you to see more students on the screen. Student Photos For an easier time finding a specific student, thumbnails now include the avatar photo of the student’s Google account in two of the three zoom levels. Student Selection You can now select specific students, to apply different features to different students, by. You can, for example, select two students and enable Lock Web, while you can also select another two students and enable Attention. All control features are applied to the selected students (if any) or to the entire classroom if there are no selections made.
