Industrial Revolution Newspaper
You are to reporter for a local newspaper in London, England in 1850. Europe is going
through a tremendous growth and change and you need to document this throughout your
newspaper. Not only is the Industrial Revolution reaching its height across the continent,
but there has been political and social upheaval throughout Europe in the last few years.
Socialism is spreading, but so are art and literary movements, like Romanticism.
As a reporter, you are to create a newspaper highlighting the main stories of Europe at the
time, including various aspects of what is happening in Europe at the time.
Requirements:
-title and date for your newspaper
-title for each of your articles
-your name as the writer of the articles
-the 5 W’s included in your articles (who, what, where, why,
when)
-At least 2 articles dealing with the Industrial Revolution
-At least 2 articles dealing with social movements
-At least 1 article dealing with political movements
-At least 2 editorials on any topic of the day
-At least 1 literature/art review of a specific Romantic work
-A visual to accompany each one of your articles and editorials
(maps, paintings, political cartoons, paintings, charts/graphs,
etc.)
Remember, you are a reporter living in 19th century England. You speak English and
write for an English newspaper. It is your job to let the people know what is happening.
You can use your notes, your textbook, and the Internet to help you out with some of the
facts.
While there are a number of free newspaper templates that you can choose to use to
create this, using Google Docs works just fine as well. Just remember, it should look like
the layout and design of an actual newspaper.
