It was time for the Annual Pre-Christmas Toy Production Meeting in Christmas Village! Mrs. Santa sent the announcements to those most involved in the ‘Big Delivery’ on Christmas Eve. The day of the meeting arrived and Christmas Village quickly became deserted as the worker elves – who were given the afternoon off – went to have a blast at a Holiday-themed Amusement Park called Yule Tide World in Gingersnap Village. As expected, Dank the Elf staged an enormous protest at the elves having a break, but Santa had the final say! So the meeting attendees flooded into the Toy Shop Board Room and the gathering kicked off with fun Christmas Trivia and an exciting game of What Christmas Thing am I? After the ice was broken and everyone mingled about and enjoyed yummy appetizers, the participants talked Santa into playing a few more hilarious Christmas games such as the Christmas Scramble Challenge and Christmas Taboo. The North Pole is such a playful place, how could Santa say no? Even amidst the joyful yet competitive spirits, accusations flew about the room regarding ‘who’ was currently holding up the Christmas Toy Production and Sleigh Loading process. About midway through the meeting, Santa discovered that the ultra-important Naughty and Nice List was missing from his inbox! To avoid a Christmas disaster, the North Pole leaders quickly rallied together to investigate who took the Naughty and Nice List before Christmas was ruined! Some guests at the meeting might have even had a motive to delay Christmas or even end Christmas altogether! The culprit had to be caught! So after an intense investigation, the meeting participants took turns accusing who they believed stole the Naughty and Nice List and what their motive was to steal it. After taking a break to play some stress-relieving games such as Christmas Charades and Do you Taste what I Taste, the Christmas leaders one by one quizzed each other on Christmas Carols and then came clean with their involvement, if any, and the thief confessed! The meeting ended with a thrilling scavenger hunt for the missing Naughty and Nice List! Overall, it was a PreChristmas meeting that will be legendary in the North Pole! Copyright © mymysteryparty.com Page 1 LIST OF CHARACTERS CHARACTER NAME AND OCCUPATION Mrs. Santa Claus Mother of Christmas REQUIRED Female Santa Claus Father of Christmas REQUIRED Male Umami the Elf Director of the Nice or Naughty List REQUIRED Either CHARACTER DESCRIPTION COSTUME SUGGESTIONS Everyone knows that it’s really Mrs. Santa Claus that runs the North Pole! A tad neurotic, this Mother of Christmas runs a tight show…especially during the Holiday season! Mrs. Santa Claus costume. The legendary Santa Claus with his rosy cheeks, full belly and jovial spirit is certainly the one to be around during the Holidays. However, his increasing irresponsibility has been threatening a successful Christmas toy run this year! Santa is also known to pull his share of practical jokes on others…so watch your back – literally! Santa Claus costume. Post it note pad and pen as optional props. Umami is the elder elf who holds the prestigious position of Director of the Nice or Naughty List. Umami is all about no-nonsense and doesn’t play around much at all. The other elves aren’t sure if it is old age or just the stress of the job…but Umami certainly isn’t much fun to be around! Elf costume. Dank is the micro-managing Director of Toy Production at Santa’s Toy Shop in the North Pole. This is one elf that you never want to double cross…or you’ll pay! Dank typically isn’t seen without his minion managers from the North Pole Toy Factory. Elf costume. Ebbie Smooge is the miserly brother of Mrs. Santa Claus. He often visits the North Pole to try to talk his sister and her husband out of wasting money on the creation and distribution of Christmas toys. If you looked up the word ‘Grouchy’ in the dictionary, Ebbie’s picture would be right next to it. He often travels with many of his doting assistants. Black suit, black top hat and cane. Foxworthy is the head toy maker and hardest working elf in the North Pole. S/he’s a little bit country, however, since s/he hails from a tiny toy shop in southern Mississippi but Foxworthy is the one that Santa counts on year after year to get the toys of Christmas ready for the big delivery. Elf costume. Viper is one of the most shy and reserved elves in the Sleigh Shop at the North Pole. It’s well known throughout the North Pole that Viper doesn’t get along fabulously with Dank the toy shop Director. But who truly gets along with Dank anyway? Elf costume. Pax is the Office Manager of The North Pole, Inc. S/he is a severe penny pincher and all of the elves say s/he’s allergic to fun. However, s/he certainly keeps the finances of Christmas in check! Pax is often seen with many of her employees as it is rumored that she is all about long hours and hard work. If you work for Pax, you won’t have much free time on your hands. Elf costume. HOST DIRECTIVES Get ready for a fun Christmas with the ‘Turmoil in the Toyshop’ game from mymysteryparty.com! This lighthearted game is a light sleuthing mystery where the players will act out a fun Christmas character while they solve the entertaining and family-friendly mystery! The party can be a huge success as long as you and your guests relax and let the mystery unravel during each round. The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. During the party, your job as the host is to ensure that the envelopes are given to the guests at the appropriate times and most of all – that you and your guest are having a blast!! There are a few props you will need to collect in advance and plant at certain places and times during the party (see below for the list). Make sure to read the host instructions for each round prior to the party to ensure that you have everything in place for the big day! Full instructions in the purchased game THE BIG REVEAL/ SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver these clues with hot chocolate (coffee) and dessert! For further questions, check out our FAQ web page at www.mymysteryparty.com/frasqu.html If your question is not listed in our FAQ, contact us at the email addresses below. Mystery Questions: [email protected] Web based Questions: [email protected] Technical Support: [email protected] *IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS: Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests to the optional characters. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as guests can cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional Copyright © mymysteryparty.com Page 4 players as you wish and in this kit, they have the same materials and same participation level, but are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and the mystery to be sleuthed. So, what happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath and grab some eggnog…it’s not the end of the world. 1. If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll need to switch characters. Hopefully this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her costume ready….but you can go ahead and let them wear the costume that they purchased/created - it won’t absolutely ruin the mystery since there are ‘name tags’ that designate each character during the game. 2. Full instructions in the purchased game 3. If you don’t care about the surprise and / or have already looked at who the guilty party is…then just be sure they are still playing - you might need to switch one required character over to play the no-show criminal. If you do this, do as described in #2 and post the missing character’s clue cards on the wall during each round. You can add comedy to this situation and make a stuffed dummy of this character and post the clues to where the chest would be or in the hands! You’ll be surprised as your guests might start to ‘mingle’ with this effigy in good humor. Copyright © mymysteryparty.com Page 5 HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY GUEST INSTRUCTIONS So you’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most fabulous Christmas costume for your assigned character and have been told to play your role. So now what? The mystery is separated into 3 main rounds of party play. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for all of the required characters provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened. Full instructions in the purchased game From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. There are some characters that are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information. Copyright © mymysteryparty.com Page 6 OPTIONAL PRE-GAME STARTER HOST INSTRUCTIONS: Before the party, encourage your guests to view this mystery on the www.mymysteryparty.com website or use the free printable My Mystery Party invitations as they have the character list included. Try to talk to your brother, Ebbie Smooge, and tell him that Christmas is not a bad thing and the good girls and boys deserve toys! Tell him Christmas is not a waste of time and money and if he is going to continue to visit you at the North Pole each holiday season, he needs to have a better attitude. Tell The Gingerbread Man that ending Christmas would not end the consumption of Gingerbread cookies. Say that they are a seasonal food item and are not only associated with Christmas. Assure the Gingerbread Man that Santa Claus only eats the sugar cookies that the boys and girls leave out for him! (If Gingerbread Man is not a EACH CHARACTER guest, disregard this task). WILL HAVE A ROUND Ask Santa what he would do if your nephew ended up on the Naughty List. ONE CLUE PERSONAL INFORMATION (You can conceal these clues from the other guests)CARD IN You are pretty certain that your nephew will be on the ‘Naughty List’ this year. It would absolutely devastate your side of the family if Santa didn’t visit your nephew on Christmas Eve!! About a month ago, your nephewPURCHASED placed a wad of chewing gum THE in his substitute teacher’s chair and she sat on it and it got all over her dress! The classed laughed hysterically and your nephew was sent to the Principal’s Office and received 5 days of after school detention! GAME During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share any clues that you collect with the other guests. ROUND TWO: DINNER IS SERVED HOST INSTRUCTIONS: Pair your guests into teams of 2-3. Facilitate the ‘Christmas Scramble Challenge during dinner (dinner is optional) and then score them using the ‘Christmas Scramble’ Answer Key (below). After the challenge, pass out the envelopes for round two to the guests and encourage them over the next thirty minutes to mingle while implementing their 'pre-crime' reveal clues for round two. Do not forget to implement your own 'pre-crime' clues and mingle with your guests before you advance the round. Santa will be instructed in his clue card for this round to announce the crime when the host gives him the cue (the cue can be anything the host chooses - a nod, a wink or whisper in Santa’s ear…'it's time!'). Before giving Santa this cue, make sure to give everyone time to mingle…do not rush! It should take at least 30 minutes for the guests to mingle about and Copyright © mymysteryparty.com Page 9 Full instructions in the purchased game compare with the reference sheet. (You can give a prize to the person who finds the most fingerprints.) 2. Simply lay them out on a table next to the reference sheet and allow your guests to view them. Tell everyone to take a minute and come up with their own conclusions on the fingerprints (this might either confirm or disprove any theories they had on whodunit) and to include that information in their investigations and guesses of whodunit. At the conclusion of this round, give the guests a time period in which to fill in their final guesses as to whodunit on the 'Mystery Investigation Sheets' (pages 47+). Any time during this round, the ‘Christmas Taboo’ or any other optional bonus game can be played. PROP LIST: These are props needed for this round. UMAMI THE ELF - ROUND TWO. DINNER IS SERVED!! PRE-CRIME: Ask Ebbie Smooge why he comes to the North Pole during the holiday season if he is going to scream ‘Bah Humbug’ at everyone all day…every day. Ask Santa if he retrieved the Naughty and Nice List from his inbox yet. Say that you are afraid something will happen to it if it is left unattended. It is such an important thing to be left on a desk for such a long time! Tell everyone that you have no plans of retiring and so they should all stop trying to get your job at the North Pole. You are the most responsible and dedicated employee at the North Pole and everyone needs to respect you. Tell Foxworthy that you’ll put in a good word with Santa if s/he wants to try to get Dank’s position in the Toy Shop. Say that 15 elves quitting the Toy Shop this close to Christmas is entirely unacceptable and you know it is all Dank’s fault. You would absolutely never make an excuse, apologize or act weak in front of anyone else. EACH CHARACTER WILL HAVE A ROUND TWO CLUE CARD IN POST-CRIME: You have not left the Toy Shop Board Room since the meeting began. You submitted the Naughty and Nice List into Santa’s inbox on his desk in his Toy Shop office – which is right next to the Toy Shop Break Room. You simply tossed it THE PURCHASED in the inbox so your prints should not be found on Santa’s inbox. However, the inbox is quite deep, so anyone who took the Naughty and Nice List from the inbox would most definitely have left some fingerprints. GAME The thief has to be someone who left the Toy Shop Board Room between the time you put the list in Santa’s inbox and the discovery of the list as missing. Maybe you should try to construct a time line of everyone who left the room and when they returned. You would expect Santa’s fingerprints to logically be found on his inbox on his desk. I am the most responsible elf at the North Pole so I don’t think that any of you should even consider the notion that I misplaced it! And, as you know, others verified the List was in the inbox after I put it there! It simply could not have happened. I am not the guilty one!” DANK THE ELF IS NEXT TO READ HIS/HER CLUE Before the party…cut out the following Naughty and Nice List and hide it in any place in your house/backyard for the finale scavenger hunt.
