From The Pastor’s end of summer. . .
As I write during these last days of August I have to admit that I am
not ready for summer to end and fall to begin. This has been a very
full summer of projects, planning, and learning new ways of being
in worship together! I hope you have had time to connect with God
in the beauty of the Adirondacks and wherever your travels have
taken you!
Please invite families and children to come to worship on Sunday
September 4th for a blessing of backpacks and all of our children
for the new school year, starting on Tuesday September 6th!
This fall our Sunday School is taking a Sabbath rest as we take
time to speak with families and discern together how we can best
serve and be in ministry with families and children in our
congregation and community. I welcome your thoughts and
suggestions on how we can best engage in ministry with and share
the love of Jesus Christ with people of all ages.
This fall I will be taking two classes in Leadership and Spiritual
Formation. If any of you would be willing to spend a couple of
nights at the parsonage with my children in October and November
please contact me for the dates!
Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Pastor Scott Tyler

I have been learning lots about how to
use our new multimedia system in the
Sanctuary and I would love to teach
anyone who is interested so that we
can develop a media team,
it’s fun, really!
As we move into new schedules
together let us embrace God’s ever

Your Trustees have taken most of the summer to relax.
I say most since several projects are still in the works
or have been completed.
At the request of the Thrift Shop, a split unit air
conditioner was installed with half the expense being
paid by the thrift shop and half by the Trustees. This
will mean an early fall and cooler temperatures.
We are still waiting for the light to be installed for the
new Cross & Flame. Plans have been gone over with
our electrician, but it’s a busy time of year.
Jim Whitty’s ramp was
completed in just 19 hours
with lots of help. Jeff Cook
headed up the team and did
the design.
We will start planning for
next year at our Sept.
meeting. If you have any
ideas let us know.
Ideas so far include, the retaining wall next to
Fellowship Hall needs rebuilding, the exits from the
Narthex need rebuilding. Painting the remainder that
was not painted this year. The walk and slab outside of
Fellowship Hall need repair or replacement. Any other
ideas see Pastor Scott or me and we’ll try to get ‘er
done.

A new baby!
Brynn Agnes arrived the evening of
August 11, weighed 5.6 (which is so
much better than her brother at 1.9!)
FUMC volunteers welcomed and provided 350
dinners to bicyclists in the area for Cycle
Adirondacks on August 21, in Bicentennial Park.
We are SO thankful, and I believe
most sincerely all of the prayers that
were said for Wesley, helped bring
him through and have helped out
again!
Thank you one and all for praying for

Laughter
By Elaine Buxton
The world is full of way too much violence
Along with its inhabitants’ silence.
Laughter is what I miss.
It’s as welcome as a hug and kiss.
I came from a family of jolly characters,
Who were always practical jokesters.
A day was not complete
Unless you were a recipient of at least on hilarious
treat.
I miss hearing that laughter from deep in the belly.
The kind that made you vibrate all over like jelly.
Especially when the person was caught off guard,
and the prank was so comical.
You laughed so hard while trying to repeat it, it was
almost impossible.
Merriment made the day for everyone around us.
It just came naturally without much fuss.
I think this world would be a whole lot better,
With a heaping helping more of laughter.
So what do you say. . . . Just giggle, chuckle, laugh,
and smile away,
And make this a delightful happy day!
August 19, 2011.
Psalm 126:2- Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
The Little Cubs Playgroup will be

Teaching Children to Tithe
Teaching children to tithe is an important part of
their faith education that we often overlook.
Giving to God is a core value of our faith that
should be taught early and reinforced often.
When our son was five, we started to teach him
about giving using “money jars.” We have three
jars sitting on his dresser that are labeled “Money
for God,” “Money to Save,” and “Money to
Spend.” He gets a two-dollars-per-week allowance.
We give it to him as a dollar bill and 4 quarters;
that way one quarter can be given to the God jar,
one to the savings jar, and the rest in the spend jar.
On Sunday, he takes the quarter from God’s jar,
and takes it to church. He fills out the offering
envelope and proudly makes his offering at church.
As we implemented the jar system we discussed
the following things with him:
1) God made everything, so everything is God’s.
Even us. We are God’s creation. We are thankful
that God created everything. God has given us so
much that we want to give back to God, too.
2) We want to think about God first.
So, the first jar we put money in will be the
“Money for God” jar.
3) We give to God because we love God.
We also show God our love by going to church,
praying, and doing good for others. In fact, when
we give money to the church, it helps the church
do the things God has asked the church to do. It
helps the church teach people about God so that
other people can know that God loves them, too.

Thrift Shop News
Summer sales have been excellent!
Donations have been plentiful as well.
We are have installed an air
conditioning unit for the sales and office
space of the Thrift Shop. The volunteers
who help sort and price items are
especially thankful for the cool rooms!
Fresh items are out for Fall, and there
is a constant array of new treasures to
explore.

Church Fair
Nov. 19 9-2 Luncheon 11-1
The annual Church Fair is rapidly
approaching. A major fund raiser for the
church, it is a great opportunity for us to share
our faith and talents with the community.
Please be willing to participate at your own
comfort level.
Homemade items are especially appreciated
– mittens, scarves, holiday decorations, etc.
Now is a good time to get such projects
underway.
Donations of items for Gifts Galore (new or
“regifted”), the Christmas Store, and the Silent
Auction are wanted. Start a church fair
collection at home. Junk or
“junque” is not acceptable. If it is broken or
not safe, we cannot use it. We are sure you
understand.

Community Dinner Committee
The Community Dinner mission committee
will be holding an open meeting in
September (to be announced) to anyone
interested in joining this activity or just
finding out what has transpired over the
last 5 years. Nobody on the original
committee had any idea that we would be
serving over 100 meals at each dinner.
We have learned a lot about cooking for a
crowd, made friends, been a refuge, and
given our community a place for
fellowship and a hearty meal.
We want to thank all our congregation
members who routinely come to our
dinners and support this mission. You
have been the core support for this
mission and it is very much appreciated,
so as soon as we have a meeting date, we
hope you come and find out what our
goals and needs are to continue this
