Just a reminder to dress your student appropriately for the cold weather. Many students don't have coats, hats or gloves in this cold weather...............Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Notes from Mrs. Houseknecht Does your child need extra help at home with Math homework? Please reference the Helping your child with Math PDF on our website for some tips and tricks. Each week we will be covering some Math Questions and Answers that you might find helpful when helping your child with Math. This week’s question/answer is: Question: What is the purpose of Math Boxes? Why aren’t the problems related? Answer: Math Boxes are one way Everyday Mathematics provides students with continuous practice and review of all mathematical content. Almost every lesson includes a Math Boxes page in the Math Journal as part of the Practice part of the lesson. Most of the problems on a Math Boxes page provide practice in various skills and concepts learned up to that point. The way, students don’t forget what they have learned, and they maintain and even improve their skills. One pair of Preview Math Boxes pages appears in two lessons near the end of each unit. These pages address content from the upcoming unit and help teachers determine students’ readiness for that unit. Teachers often use Math Boxes to assess students’ progress informally so that they can better plan instruction and choose appropriate differentiation activities. Music Notes from Mrs. VanDerBas Special thanks to all of our performers in the ER Holiday Program 2016. I am very grateful to ER alumni, Jamie and Michael Ropars, who helped with special details and costumes. Every student from grades Kindergarten through 5th participated and performed songs together. The students loved watching their teachers dance to Nysync, thanks to our cool teacher, Rene Burns and her choreography. Our 5th level dances and song leaders performed so well. Our 5th level students in Strings, Band and Chorus performed their Holiday Music. Also, we had many students share their holiday traditions from around the world. Happy Holidays to all! I am looking forward to teaching lots of New Music and performing in 2017. Our Spring Concert will be presented on Tuesday evening, May 9, 7:00 p.m. at Pennsbury High school, West campus. Third Grade Take a vacation to Study Island over the holidays… it provides great practice with Reading and Math skills and it’s a wonderful way to prepare for our first PSSA in the spring. This week we continue to measure in Math, discuss attributes of polygons, and learn area and perimeter. In Reading, we’ve been reviewing the Sequence of Events in a story, so when you are reading at home, please ask your child what happened first, next and last in the story. We are wrapping up our Narrative Writing unit but we continue to hone our writing skills. We’re looking forward to our Holiday Party on the 23rd!
