ANCIENT PAESTUM
VENICE AND RENAISSANCE
URBINO
Your journey starts with a twonight hotel stay in Venice and a
guided stroll around its heart –
Piazza San Marco – and on one
evening you will enjoy an exclusive
visit to St Mark's Basilica: not to be
missed. Perched on two hills, the
walled town of Urbino contains
some true treasures. Here you
will visit the birthplace of Raphael,
tour the Palazzo Ducale, Italy's
most beautiful Renaissance palace,
and view the magnificent Duomo.
THE WONDERS OF DALMATIA
Split is home to one of the greatest
of all Roman sites, the Palace of
Diocletian. A morning tour of this
remarkable palace includes the
Temple of Jupiter and Diocletian’s
mausoleum. In the afternoon, there
is the option of visiting one of the
true gems of the Dalmatian coast,
the delightful island of Trogir.
Included sightseeing in Dubrovnik
features the 10th century city
walls, the Baroque Church of St
Blaise and the Cathedral.
Set in the tip of Italy's boot, Lecce
is a city of architectural treasures.
These include the 25,000-seat
Roman amphitheatre and the
stunning Palazzo Tamborino.
See the Albanian archaeological
site of Butrint, occupied since at
least the 8th century BC. and the
legacy of British rule in Corfu Town.
SICILY, PAESTUM AND AMALFI
After a relaxing day at sea, you
come to Taormina on the island of
Sicily. With its mountainous background and spectacular views of
Etna, the Graeco-Roman theatre
is our morning destination. In the
afternoon you cruise through the
Strait of Messina and later pass by
volcanic Stromboli – hoping for a
magical firework display. From
Salerno there’s a visit to Paestum.
Legend has it that Paestum was
founded by Jason of Argonaut
2 NIGHTS IN VENICE
fame. What is undoubted, however, is the majesty of the three
Greek temples that were the heart
of this 6th century Greek city. In
the afternoon, you cruise along the
delightful Amalfi coast to Sorrento.
MYSTERIES OF POMPEII
& THE GRANDEUR OF ROME
Drive from Sorrento to the moving
remains of Pompeii. The town,
dating back to the 6th century
BC, was engulfed by lava erupting
from Vesuvius in August 79AD.
Alternatively, you can visit
Herculaneum which perished in
the same eruption.
Disembark for a two-night hotel
stay in the Eternal City. Your tour
starts at the Colosseum, built in
80AD by Emperor Vespasian as a
means of gaining the love of the
people by building a venue for
gladiatorial games with a capacity
of 50,000 spectators. Finally
you’ll visit the Basilica of St
Peter’s in Vatican City.
