Assiut university center for south valley Development together with the National
committee of Planet Earth, Egypt, announces the organization of an International
conference on "Planet Earth: Earth Sciences and Development of Civilization in Major
Rivers Basins" Luxor, Egypt, October 11-13,2010.
The Planet Earth Luxor event will bring together earth scientists, historians,
politicians, representatives of International committees of IYPE, representatives from
Industry environmentalists, hydrogeolgists and sustainable Development specialists
from different continents of the world.

Objectives of the conference :
The main objectives of the conference are to give the participants from different world
rivers civilizations the following opportunities :
1- Exchanging their experiences and thoughts on the main topics of the conference,
how to keep the earth healthy and importance of earth science for development
of societies.
2- Formulating principles of the interaction between society and nature in the major
river basins, which contribute to sustainable development.
3- Delivering scientific works.
Main Topics of the Conferenc:.
1. Historical development of world Major rivers and their impact on the natural
resources development.
2. Geological processes and their influences on industrial development in river
basins.
3. Potential Impact of Climate change on the major Rivers.
4. Geological and Cultural heritage along river valleys.
5. Development of international relations between major rivers civilizations.
(Languages and communications development on the Rivers banks).
6. Application of Space Technology (GIS and Remote Sensing) in monitoring
River Basins.
7. Role of major rivers in the development of national, clean and renewable
energies productions.
8. Geological features along river vallys and development of civilization.
IGCP-Arab Countries
During the conference a regional consultation meeting for International Geoscience
Programme (IGCP) representatives from the Arab countries will be organized. The
meeting will aim in promoting IGCP project proposals from the region and the
development of scientific research in the field of Earth Sciences through the provision of
modern information about mineral resources, climate change and geological hazards.
The IGCP project propsals are expected to contribute in solving fundamental
geoscientific problems relevant to sustainable development in the region.
Conference Languages will be English and Arabic :
Participants are requested to submit their abstracts before 15.06.2010
in typescript
A4 size. Floppy disks for IBM WinWord processor are acceptable.
Registration fee :
$
800 for non Egyptians
LE 1000 for Egyptians
LE 4000 for Egyptian organization (no more than 4 persons)
50 % reduction for students.
The fee includes accommodation in Luxor Hotels, coffee breaks, books of abstracts and
other publications of the conference.
