THE CHALLENGE:
KEEPING NITROGEN AVAILABLE TO NOURISH PLANTS.
Depending on your soil type, your fertilizer is susceptible to losing more than 50% of its nitrogen through three forms of loss.
At Koch Agronomic Services, we’ve developed a line of products to help protect against this loss. Some products protect against
ammonia volatilization with one mode of action, while others provide additional protection against denitrification and
nitrate leaching with two modes of action.

4
AMMONIA VOLATILIZATION
This occurs when the soil’s urease enzymes break the urea molecules
into ammonia gas. Up to 40% of surface-applied urea-based nitrogen not
incorporated into the soil via rainfall, irrigation or tillage can be lost through
volatilization. This type of loss can occur with every soil type.
NITRATE LEACHING
This form of nitrogen loss happens when negatively charged nitrate is
moved below the plant’s root zone by percolating water. Leaching is most
common in sandy soils.
DENITRIFICATION
This form of nitrogen loss occurs when nitrate nitrogen is converted back
to gaseous forms. The nitrogen diffuses out of the soil and is lost into
the atmosphere. Denitrification occurs in soils that are poorly drained or
become waterlogged.
THE SOLUTION:
NITROGEN STABILIZER TECHNOLOGY.
Let’s make nitrogen loss one less thing to worry about. Whether you’re losing nitrogen through ammonia volatilization or need
additional protection against denitrification and nitrate leaching, we have you covered. Here are our products that offer you
the security you need:
AGROTAIN® NITROGEN STABILIZER
AGROTAIN® nitrogen stabilizer is the original, most research-proven urease
inhibitor technology on the market. With 20 years of trials and real-world results
on millions of acres worldwide, it’s the one growers trust to protect their nitrogen
investment and yield potential every time.
Single mode of action to control volatilization
AGROTAIN® PLUS NITROGEN STABILIZER
AGROTAIN® PLUS nitrogen stabilizer contains the premier urease enzyme
inhibitor technology and a proven nitrification inhibitor that protects nitrogen
from ammonia volatilization, denitrification and nitrate leaching. Featuring
two modes of action, it can be combined with UAN or liquid manure to
protect against all three forms of nitrogen loss.
Dual mode of action to control all three forms of loss
SUPERU® FERTILIZER
SUPERU® fertilizer is a finished, stabilized fertilizer product that contains
both a urease and a nitrification inhibitor to protect nitrogen against
denitrification, nitrate leaching and ammonia volatilization. It contains the
highest concentration (46%) of nitrogen available in a stabilized granular
fertilizer that protects against all three forms of nitrogen loss.
Dual mode of action to control all three forms of loss

The fact is, AGROTAIN® stabilizer is able to provide
protection for well past 14 days. Here’s how it works:
when granular urea and liquid UAN fertilizers are
surface-applied, the urease enzyme breaks apart the
urea-nitrogen. AGROTAIN® nitrogen stabilizer reduces
the activity of urease enzymes. By slowing this activity,
the soil has the ability to resist changes in the pH
in the immediate vicinity of the urea, resulting in a
lower ammonia volatilization loss and an optimal
crop yield potential.

FORMULATIONS OF AGROTAIN®.
The entire line of AGROTAIN® nitrogen stabilizer products helps control ammonia volatilization with the only urease
inhibitor defined by the Association of American Plant Food Control Officials (AAPFCO). AGROTAIN® stabilizer comes
in a variety of formulations to meet the needs of your specific operation — taking into account your blending and
application method.
NEW AGROTAIN® ADVANCED 1.0
NEW AGROTAIN® DRI-MAXX
AGROTAIN® ADVANCED 1.0 stabilizer is an innovative
new liquid formulation of AGROTAIN® stabilizer with
an increased concentration. This patented technology
offers reduced buildup while blending and spreading with
less product to store and handle.
AGROTAIN® DRI-MAXX stabilizer is our improved,
patented dry formulation. This highly concentrated dry
formulation offers improved handling characteristics as
well as better flowability. This product adheres to the

LOWER TEMPERATURES, STILL A RISK OF NITROGEN LOSS.
A 2011 study by Dr. Rick Engel proved that surface-applied urea still loses a significant amount of
nitrogen due to ammonia volatilization in cold weather. Luckily, Engel’s study also showed a product
that protects against this loss — AGROTAIN® nitrogen stabilizer.
At one of the locations in the Engel cold weather study, untreated urea lost about 44% of its nitrogen through
ammonia volatilization after nine weeks (63 days), while urea treated with AGROTAIN® stabilizer only lost about 12%.

Applying livestock manure to
crops is a cost-efficient way to
fertilize. Unfortunately, when
manure remains untreated, it’s like leaving a gate
open to nitrogen loss. And when nitrogen isn’t
available for your crops, your yield could be impacted.
AGROTAIN® PLUS nitrogen stabilizer is a convenient
additive with dual inhibitors for increased protection
against all three forms of nitrogen loss. Just add a
small amount to manure pits and keep more of your
nitrogen right where it belongs.

SUPERU® fertilizer takes efficiency and productivity to new levels. Each blue granule is uniform in size, so you get
broader, more even spread patterns, allowing you to cover more acres in a day. It’s also completely soluble, making
it readily plant-available.
SUPERU® fertilizer is backed by 15 years of research and hundreds of trials. It gives the grower peace of mind and
the flexibility to choose how and when to apply.

THE POWER TO MAKE THINGS GROW
“
”
“We have some years where the weather hits just right, and other years everything goes backwards, you can’t do
anything right… It gives you a big edge by using AGROTAIN® PLUS.”
“
Chris Mehrle, grower
Caruthersville, MO
”
“We really like AGROTAIN® PLUS because it holds nitrogen and keeps it from volatilizing for a long time.
We’ve used other products that have not worked as well as AGROTAIN® PLUS. With AGROTAIN® PLUS, we usually see
on our corn acres probably a 12- to 15-bushel increase.”
“
Harrison Rigdon
Jarrettsville, MD
”
“We work with the Caledonia Farmer’s Elevator. Our agronomist was there for 15 or 20 years. And we rely on him almost
a hundred percent for recommendations for fertilizer. When he recommended the AGROTAIN®, I said, ‘Let’s try it.’
I didn’t question it — if he’s convinced it’s good, it’s good enough for me. And so we did it, and we liked it, and several
of our neighbors liked it. So this year I know they’ve got one whole big bay full of it, waiting for this spring’s application.”

THE POWER TO MAKE THINGS GROW
NOTES:
Actual results may vary based on a number of factors, including environmental conditions. Yield benefits from application of stabilizer products
to nitrogen fertilizer will only occur if nitrogen loss is a limiting factor.
