THREE WEEKS PRIOR TO THE OLYMPICS OUR SWIM TEAM TRAINED IN LIVERPOOL. PAUL ACHIEVED A PERSONAL BEST TIME IN THE 100M FREESTYLE. MATELITA ACHIEVED A PERSONAL BEST TIME FOR HER FIRST 50M OF THE 100M BREASTROKE AND A SEASONAL BEST FOR THE 100M BREASTROKE. A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE BY OUR FIRST TIME OLYMPIANS! 09-2012 20 12 L O NG C OU R S E C H A M PS THE LONG COURSE CHAMPIONS OF 2012...4TH YEAR RUNNING! CONGRATULATIONS!! It’s been busy for the Water Warriors LONG COURSE GRAND PRIX The Long Course Grand Prix Series saw our swimmers perform at their best! GP#1 achieved 54 personal best times, GP#2 achieved 55 personal best times and GP#3 saw 47 personal best times. Eight records were broken during these series and they were all broken by our young, talented 10 year old swimmer, Temafa Yalimaiwai. ADULT LEARN TO SWIM LONG COURSE NATIONALS This year after much preparations from our coaches and our swimmers, the Long Course Nationals held in the capital Suva began with heavy rains and strong winds. This did not dampen the spirit of our club. 135 personal best times were achieved. 18 National records were broken, 11 of which were broken by Temafa Yalimaiwai pictured here. BUS RIDE TO NADI FRIDAY FUN DAY Club AGM M OV I E NI G H T The club held its Annual General Meeting on the 31st of August. This coincided with a Friday Fun Day which the coaches put on for our young ones. The meeting drew a great turn out from our parents and several apologies were received from those who were traveling abroad. Although the bus ride is long and begins in the wee hours of the comp morning, it is something our families look forward to. Another opportunity to be together! In brief, GP#1 saw 42 personal best times, GP#2 - 35 personal bests and GP#3 8 records were broken. The Tongan Malolo Swim Club (below) came in from Nukualofa to attend the GP#3. A first pool competition for the young club as they train and swim in the ocean at the Tonga Naval Base, Nukualofa. swimming Swimming is an excellent full-body aerobic workout, burning as many calories per hour as running or cycling at the same intensity. It is a safe option for overweight, elderly and pregnant athletes whose bodies cannot handle high-impact sports. If swimming floats your boat, then keep at it. It doesn’t matter if you’re splashing around with your kids burning 400 calories an hour, or burning 748 calories per hour honing your butterfly for the Olympic trials. We are always looking out for parents who are willing to help the committee in tending to the various areas of running the club. Please talk to any of the committee members who are normally poolside if you wish to help out or discuss ideas. SWIM- A- TH O N SWIM-A-THON A FIRST FOR THE WATER WARRIORS. THE CHALLENGE WAS TO SWIM 100 KMS COLLECTIVELY HOWEVER, ON THE DAY, AFTER 3 HOURS OF NON STOP SWIMMING, OUR YOUNGLINGS SWUM 165KMS! A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT BY ALL. DISTANCE BADGES WERE ALSO AWARDED TO OUR BEGINNER & IMPROVER GROUPS. COLLECTIVELY THE CLUB RAISED NEARLY $5,OOO WHICH GOES TO ASSISTING WITH THE RUNNING COSTS OF THE CLUB. WORLD’S SC CHAMPIONSHIPS, TURKEY 12-16 DEC EUGENE KADO OFF TO NZ Eugene Kado pictured right, is competing in the State New Zealand Short Course held in Wellington on the 30th of Sept 4th Oct. Eugene has qualified in three events - 50 Freestyle, 50 breastroke and the 100 freestyle. This will be his first overseas meet which he is very excited about. He will be traveling with his mum, Milly and several swimmers from Race Club, Fiji. The club wishes Eugene all the very best and we know that the competition will be a wonderful experience for him!
