(IBM Lotus Domino 5.0 and higher) Overview To ensure the proper functioning of Sentinel Messaging’s Auto-Provisioning feature, it is crucial that your mail servers be configured to actively refuse mail sent to undesired aliases during the SMTP transaction. We use the term undesired aliases to refer to e-mail aliases which have not been explicitly defined in the “Internet address” or “User name” field of a Person document. For example, a user named “Joe Blow” with an “Internet address” of [email protected], will by default receive mail for [email protected] and [email protected], even if you have not explicitly defined these e-mail aliases in the “User name” field. Furthermore, this default behavior is conditional. If you have two users with a “First name” of Joe or a “Last name” of Blow, Domino will not enable this behavior. As a result, it is highly desirable to disable this behavior in Domino, so that only explicitly defined e-mail addresses and aliases are accepted for SMTP transactions, which we refer to as strict address lookup. This tech note will help you enable strict address lookup within IBM Lotus Domino. If you have any questions about this or any other topic, please contact DigiTar Support ([email protected]). (Special thanks to Heather Hottenstein at RPR Wyatt for her contributions to the content and verification of this tech note.) Step 1 • • • Open the Domino Directory (NAB). IMPORTANT: The “Short name/UserID” field cannot be used to specify e-mail aliases when “Fullname only” address lookup is enabled on the Domino server. • • This Tech Note works for Domino 5.0 and higher.
