What the letters actually stand for, however, is another matter. Setting Up: Write a few of the more commonly known abbreviations on the board such as DVD, FBI and TKO. Ask students if they know what these abbreviations stand for. Divide the class into pairs. Give one student Worksheet A and the other Worksheet B. Getting Started: Student B has the abbreviation and the answer on Worksheet B. Student A only has the abbreviation N A T O printed on Worksheet A in bold lettering. Write each abbreviation on the board, one at a time, and offer a point to the team that first identifies the abbreviation correctly.
