Water Cycle
Giavanna, Ishah, and Dylan
Water Cycle
Evaporation
-
water molecules are pulled from the bodies of water into the atmosphere
liquid state turns to gaseous state
Transpiration
- water is pulled from plant through
capillary action
- then water evaporates into the
atmosphere
Condensation
-
change of water in gaseous form (water vapor) to liquid water
happens in atmosphere
warm air rises then cools causing it to lose its capacity to hold water vapor
cloud droplets are formed from condensed excess water vapor
Precipitation
-
collected liquid water in clouds precipitates (falls) to the ground
rain, snow, sleet, hail
Run-off
-
excess precipitation that did not get absorbed into the soil or evaporated
gathers where water collects
causes erosion
carries chemicals and substances to rivers where the water eventually
ends up (water pollution)
Eutrophication
-
increase of organic matter in an ecosystem
addition of nutrients to water
promote algae growth (plants)
oxygen depletes
Collection
-
when water falls to the ground it collects in oceans, rivers, lakes, streams,
or land
land- can infiltrate into the ground and be stored there, used by plants or
travel into bodies of water

What is causing the fish to die…
→ fertilizer sprayed on plant and goes into soil
→ fertilizer joins water molecules
→ transpiration takes water out of plant
→ contaminated water evaporates into atmosphere
→ rain falls into lake
→ fertilizer in water causes increase in algae
→ fertilizer kills the fish
What is causing the fish to die…
→ fertilizer sprayed on plant
→ precipitation
→ fertilizer washes off plants
→ fertilizer runs off into lake due to runoff
→ causes polluted water leading to the death of fish
→ fertilizer increases the number algae
→ lake turns green
Solutions
-
Use an organic fertilizer that does not harm the environment and contain
poisonous pesticides
-
All-Purpose Fertilizer - Organic (Vegetable)
Solutions
-
use compost and grass clippings
-
enrich garden soil
provides the same nutrients that organic fertilizers provide
What Humans Are Doing…
Polluting Water
-
humans add substances to water
-
-
pesticides
herbicides
fertilizers
mishandled manure
faulty septic systems
precipitation falls and evaporation picks up pollutants
polluted water moves into rivers and creeks and permeates the bodies of
water
less clean water for humans and animals
What Humans Are Doing…
Deforestation (removal of trees)
-
With Trees
-
-
trees release water vapor
more precipitation
plants will receive water in order to survive
more oxygen and less carbon dioxide
Without trees
-
less water vapor will be put in air
little precipitation
plants become dehydrated
causes leaching and run offs
more carbon dioxide
