
Standards-based reporting efficacy among all subjects, by providing
similarly specific and meaningful feedback for students and parents
Historical Context

Current “I can” statement is constant for kindergarten through second grade

Spanish “I can” statement left open-ended at program’s infancy

First year, all levels started with the same curriculum

As with all curriculum, World Language: Spanish has evolved since inception
Proposed Changes

Using the framework from the Standards for Foreign Language Learning, provide
age-appropriate feedback in the areas of:

Communication

Cultures

Connections

Comparisons

Communities

Priority Standards used as basis for proposed report card amendments

Manageably work towards skill mastery of language fundamentals by focusing on
priority standards

Clearly illustrate how skills compound from one grade level to the next

Review previous grade’s priority standards before expanding
