Today’s Rundown
• Introduction to Participation through Games
• Game ideas
• General
• Related to lessons (as a review)
• SHARING of game ideas (your part)
• Break
• MORE ideas
• Lucky Draw
Basic Principles
• To ensure comprehensible input, the language use
must genuinely make meaning by / for the students
(but not meaningless drills)
• To maximize comprehensible output, students have
to use / repeat the target form as much as possible
• To maximize noticing, a target form should be
identified and brought to the students’ attention (e.g.
writing on the board)
Basic Principles
• To maximize internalization, the game
should be played at frequent intervals.
• No context, therefore cannot replace textbased teaching
• Atmosphere: fun, laughter, quick pace vs.
discipline
• As fillers, not full lessons
• As bonuses for good behavior
Preparing the Students
• How will you group them?
• Instructions are critical. Practice.
• DO NOT give out the materials before you
give the instructions. Kiss the game goodbye.
• Set a time limit. (5-10 minutes)
• A lot of materials for each group? Put them in
bags.
Transactional Language
• English only?
• Then give the students “game” language.

KEY Concept: Grammar Teaching
 Less explanation, more exposure and use with focus
on form-meaning relationships (for both input and
output  thinking  internalisation)
