Darwell Retreat - SOLD, East Sussex - 4 acres

Darwell Retreat - SOLD, East Sussex - 4 acres, £38,500
This High Weald woodland with an interesting variety of oak, beech, fir, Lawson cypress, birch, holly and rhododendron, gently slopes to the
southwest overlooking the Weald countryside. In spring there are many bluebells here. During summer the foxgloves appear. Occasionally
deer, badgers and other wildlife are to be seen in the wood, sometimes making use of a small pond in the wood. There is a clearing which is
perfect for family recreation, camping and all sorts of woodland activities. The wood is totally private and very secluded; there are no public or
other rights of way across it. It is sold with sporting rights. The mineral rights are reserved to a previous owner but could only be exploited by
underground working. If a new owner wishes, a Forestry Commission grant may be available for control of the rhododendron.
Locality The Netherfield area was a very important region for the mining of iron ore and the production of iron from about 1600 to 1800. The
local furnace, called Beech, was a source of the iron used in many of the cannons produced over this period. The charcoal produced from local
wood was an important part of the iron smelting process. After your exploration of these woods you might like to visit the local hostelries -The
White Hart and The Netherfield Arms.
