Why does your company
need corporate eyecare?
The 1992 Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment)
regulations were introduced to improve conditions
for all employees who work with visual display units
(VDUs) or who need safety glasses in their work.
If your company employs people to drive for their work,
whether company car or delivery vehicle, under the ‘Corporate
Manslaughter’ bill, you have a duty of care to ensure that they
are safe to drive and that they meet the strict requirements
of the Highway Code and relevant road traffic laws relating
to eyesight and the Health and Safety Act 1974.
What does this mean
for your company?
The welfare of your employees’ eyesight is
your responsibility. The Boots Opticians corporate
eyecare scheme can ensure that your legal
requirements are met, whilst offering a benefit
that many employees value highly as part of
their employee benefits scheme.
Your company is obliged to provide the following
for employees who regularly use display screens
at work or need safety glasses in their work:
• A full eye examination from a qualified Optometrist
• Subsequent eye examinations at regular intervals
as specified by the examining Optometrist
• Basic glasses if they’re found necessary
for VDU work
• Safety glasses if they’re found necessary
for the work undertaken

For your drivers, providing a regular eye
examination will help to ensure that they’re
driving legally and protect them from potential
prosecution or injury. Your company could
also make big savings on damage caused to
company vehicles because of poor eyesight.
Boots Opticians – corporate
eyecare to feel good about
At Boots Opticians, we know that you need a
simple way to provide eyecare to your employees.
We want to make life easy and help you to control
costs, whilst offering your employees the very best
eyecare available.
Our scheme is so easy to use, with
nothing to pay upfront – no joining fees,
no administration costs and no vouchers
to buy in advance.
What can Boots
Opticians offer?
A full eye examination from a qualified Optometrist
for £15 including:
• Full history and symptoms
• Internal eye pressure
• Visual field screening
• Colour perception
• Interior and exterior examination for eyes
• On site pre screening tests
• Prescription safety glasses from just £40
• Single vision glasses for VDU users for just £25
Glasses for VDU users
If during the eye examination, we establish that
your employee would benefit from prescription
glasses for use in their work with a display screen,
we can provide a complete pair of single vision
glasses at a cost to you of just £25 – but we’ll
allow your employee to choose from a range
of dozens of glasses in our own brand complete
priced range – up to £79. We’ll even include
an anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating
at no extra cost! For more information –
see the VDU page.
Safety glasses
We have an extensive range of safety glasses
with prices starting at just £40 for Boots single
vision safety glasses with CR39 lenses.
We’re also proud to be able to provide
Bollé safety glasses. Bollé has become
a byword for quality and enjoys a glowing
international reputation for protective eyewear.
For more information – see the safety page.
Boots Opticians ‘Business Class’
We know that only a small number of people
would benefit from glasses just for use at the
computer, but that many more are, or should be,
wearing glasses for activities such as reading,
watching TV or driving, and we want to help
them out with the cost of their eyecare too.
That’s why we’ve launched our ‘Business Class’
employee benefits scheme. Simply because your
company is a member of the Boots Opticians
corporate eyecare scheme, your employees
and their family will be able to make big savings
on the cost of their eyecare.

Safety eyewear
The Boots Opticians corporate eyecare
scheme provides an extensive range
of prescription eye protections suitable
for all working environments.
We have a comprehensive range of safety
eyewear to ensure the correct fit and therefore
the safety of your employees’ eyes. We offer
two ranges of safety eyewear, both of which
are CE approved to EN166.
In order to establish the best type of safety
glasses for your employees, you should conduct
a risk assessment of your working environment.
This should be reviewed on a regular basis to
ensure that you are offering the best possible
eye protection for your people.
Eye examination
We can provide a complete eye examination
for all of your safety eyewear users. We would
recommend that an eye examination is carried
out at the time of ordering safety glasses, so that
we can be sure that the prescription is as accurate
as possible and therefore ensuring the safety
of the wearer and negating the need for the
glasses to be replaced sooner than necessary
due to a change in prescription.
For the Boots safety range, we can carry out a full
eye examination for £15, a saving of at least 25%
on our normal fee.

CR39 – provides a lightweight lens option that
is suitable for working environments where the
risk to eyesight comes from light objects travelling
at low speed, such as cardboard packaging.
Polycarbonate – provides a very lightweight
lens that is tough and durable and able to
cope with most situations in which safety
glasses are needed.
Toughened Glass – heavyweight and
unsuitable if being worn for long periods
of time. Recommended in situations where
plastic lenses wouldn’t be suitable, for example
if likely to come into contact with chemicals.
Frame types
The most important consideration of any safety
frame is the fit, which is why we offer a sample
of most of our safety glasses to be tried on
in store before ordering, and a complete
measurement and fitting service before your
employee starts using their new safety glasses.
The Bollé range offers the very latest in safety,
style and technology. Their range includes very
lightweight, stylish frames that your employees
will find very wearable and that will stand up
to the toughest of tests.

Driver’s package
If your company employs people to drive for
their work, whether company car or delivery
vehicle, under the ‘Corporate Manslaughter’
bill you have a duty of care to ensure that they
are safe to drive and that they meet the strict
requirements of the Highway Code and relevant
road traffic laws relating to eyesight and the
Health and Safety Act 1974.
Many companies are introducing a driver’s
eyecare scheme, making sure they have regular
eye examinations and wear appropriate eyewear
to help make them safer on the roads.
Boots Opticians can help you implement
and launch such a scheme, easily and very
cost effectively.
The cost of providing a scheme to your drivers
can quite often be quickly recovered through a
reduction in insurance claims and by providing a
driver’s scheme you may even be able to reduce
your insurance costs.
Your employee is able to choose from dozens
of frames from our own brand complete price
range up to and including our £79 range.

of the form.
We’ll provide a great service to your employees
and we’ll send you a monthly invoice detailing
