¡Hola! Welcome to Spanish class!
These are the skills we have been working on since school started:
Kindergarten:
These past weeks have been very busy: the students are reviewing colors and shapes. They
also are learning to talk about the weather, the seasons and the months. They learned how
to say when it is their birthday (everyone got excited!!) We are now focusing on things we
can do in the fall.
1st grade:
The students reviewed the weather, seasons and months. They learned how to write their
birthday date correctly (first the day, then the month).
2nd grade:
The students learned about the countries that speak Spanish. Once they colored them in a
map they were surprised about how many there are! We keep using the vocabulary we
know to function in the classroom and now we are learning about the school. They are
designing their own “escuela” with different rooms etc. Ask your students about that project!
3rd grade:
The students also reviewed all the skills previously described. I shared with them pictures of a
trip I took to a school in an area of Venezuela and we compared it to our very own, all in
Spanish. Now we are focusing on a bigger community: Oak Park and we will be comparing it
to my hometown in Spain.
4th grade:
These past weeks we have reviewed the vocabulary we need to start our travel unit: the
classroom, the school, the city, etc. We learned about Mexican Independence and why we
celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. 4th graders are also learning about the location and
capitals of Spanish speaking countries through my blog. Ask them to show you!
5th grade:
5th graders have also reviewed the vocabulary they need in order to “travel” to a Spanish
speaking country. We also celebrated and learned about Hispanic Heritage Month and
Mexican Independence.

Kids Kloset
needs your old winter clothes
Between now and Friday, October 14, please bring your
gently-used, winter clothes that don’t fit anymore to the
Kids Kloset box in the Commons at Beye School. Clothes
may include snow pants, coats, boots, hats, mittens,
scarves, sweaters, shirts and pants for children or adults.
Our 4th-grade Beye School Girl Scout Patrol is collecting
these clothes for families who need warm clothes. We will
bring the clothes to Kids Kloset at First United and
volunteer there helping people find clothes that fit.
Thank you for your donations.
Sincerely,
Girl Scout Junior Troop #41622, Patrol #2
