HAMBER LIBRARY WORKS CITED Modern Language Association Format Seventh Edition General Guidelines: Collect the information for the Works Cited list as you do your research. Use a variety of resources, with a minimum of three different types of resources. The Works Cited appears at the end of your assignment on a separate 8.5x11" page with the title Works Cited centered at the top of the page. Do NOT underline or capitalize. Arrange entries alphabetically by the author's last name or by the title of the work if no author is given. Ignore the words “A”, “An”, and “The” in the title if they are the first word. Use standard fonts (Times New Roman, Arial) and font size 12 Do NOT number or bullet. Do NOT use subheadings or categories. Double space ALL entries (EVERY SINGLE LINE IS DOUBLE SPACED) First line of each entry starts at the margin; other lines of entry are indented 5 spaces (hit tab key) Author Names: reversed so that it is written last name, first name. (i.e. King, Stephen). If there is NO author, start entry with TITLE. Dates: day month year. Use 3 letter abbreviations for months (e.g. 7 Sept. 2010 - Except for May, June & July); if no date type n.d. If many dates are listed, use the most recent date. City of Publication: when more than one city is listed, use the first city listed. Do NOT include the country (e.g. United States). Use 2 letter code for province or state for lesser known cities. Format & punctuation is important. Follow the examples exactly as they appear. Websites: ONLY put a URL for a website IF your website is difficult to find, or if the teacher requests it. Put the URL between < > and write as far to right margin as possible.
