January Competition
January Target Fish Results
Six hardy youngsters turned out to fish in
Penzance Harbour, and despite all their best
efforts (and birthday cakes) no fish were
caught except for a scorpion fish for me.
No fish reported to Rob.
2017 Subscriptions
Your subscriptions are now due. The Junior
subscription is £12 and a family subscription
for 2 adults and 2 children is £28.
Remember you cannot weigh in fish or be
eligible for any of the competitions until you
have paid up for the year.

This was on Monday 30 January in the
Watersports Centre on the Albert Pier in
Penzance.
Nine members attended and each went home
with a prize, including two rods and one reel.
We will also had the fishing game to revise how
to work out percentage weights.
Children’s University
If you do not have a passport and wish to join
in with this scheme, I have passports and they
are FREE.

Junior Species Hunt
David Massimino-Jenkins Trophy
This was at the Bath Inn, and was another
excellent evening. Lots of photos on the
website.
Mercedes Philiips caught a conger in the
February competition. She is the only angler to
tell Bill that she has caught a fish.
YOU must tell Bill and send him a photo of your
catches – they can be caught at any time.
So get your photos emailed to Bill Padgeth at
[email protected] .

minimum, 10 points for a fish over minimum and
15 points for a specimen,

February Meeting

Monday 27 February in the Watersports
Centre on the Albert Pier starting at 7.00pm.
We will be tying knots and rigs.
If anybody needs new line on their reel, bring
it along and we will give you the new line.
Free mystery draw open to all attending– one
prize only.

This is on Sunday 12th March from 14.00-17.00
at Porthleven Harbour.
Junior Shore League 2017
Lesser Spotted Dogfish (Murghy)
Points will be awarded for each competition
as follows:
Fishing a competition

Each mini species

*A fish below minimum size

*Each angler can only count their best fish
of a species in each competition for points.
There will be a £10 voucher for the winning
under 13 junior and a £10 voucher for the
13 and over junior.
Scyliorhinus canicula
Nostril flaps joined to each other in front of
mouth. First dorsal fin starts behind pelvic
fins. Sandy brown in colour with darker spots
with a lighter belly. Like Bull Huss and Tope,
they have a very coarse skin which can graze
your hands. Males have claspers for mating,
and females lay egg cases, often called
‘Mermaid’s Purses’.
Usually caught on the sea bed using fish baits.
Average size: 1 – 2lb
