INSTRUCTION MANUAL
MODELS ZA|TEN and ZA|THIRTY Air Catalyst
The oxygen/air purifiers are canisters containing a low temperature
catalyst, a heating system and a temperature controller. The system
temperature is factory-set at the optimum temperature for the
destruction of carbon monoxide, methane and hydrocarbons (about
290°C ± 10°C). A cooling coil is placed between the purifier and the
using equipment so that the temperature of the effluent hydrocarbon free air does not exceed 40°C.
The equilibration time for initial power is about sixty minutes. It is
advised that no instrumentation be connected to the purifier during this
interval since copious amounts of water are driven from the catalyst
during this period.
During this initial "burn-in" a low flow of air should be permitted to pass
through the purifier to "sweep" the accumulated water from the purifier
and effluent tubing prior to connection to using equipment.
The oxygen/air purifier will accommodate carbon monoxide, methane
and hydrocarbon concentrates in air to 500-ppm. Most ambient levels
are below 5.0-ppm. The lifespan of the catalyst is almost indefinite
though rapidly poisoned by chlorinated and sulfur compounds. It is for
this reason that the purifier is always located after the scrubbers which
remove these materials. The enclosed "Efficiency of the Methane
Reactor" indicates the efficiency of the purifier for methane. Carbon
monoxide and hydrocarbon output, including methane, from the purifier
will be less than 1-ppb.
The purifier is recommended for the generation of air which is carbon
monoxide and hydrocarbon-free. It is widely used in determining
ambient methane levels, reactive versus non-reactive hydrocarbons, as
source air for CO, Ch4 , and THC analyzers, preparation of air blends,
combustion air for TOC analyzers, etc.
**NOTICE**
Do not exceed the specified flow rate for
each model. Not only will the unit not
perform to specification but you also run the
risk of damaging your equipment.
ZA SERIES QUICK START GUIDE
1.
Connect a regulated air supply to the purifier inlet (marked
“Input”). Take care that regulation will permit control of flow so
as not to exceed the capacity of the unit.
2.
Install the supplied power cord to the rear of the unit and
connect to the applicable 120V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz outlet.
The maximum wattage of all Model ZA|TEN’s is 300-watts @
120/60 and 300-watts @ 220/50. Maximum wattage for all Model
ZA|THIRTY’s is 600-watts @ 120/60 and 600-watts @ 220/50.
3.
Permit the unit to heat until the temperature indicator is
displaying 290C + or – 10 degrees and begins to cycle. (A small
dot that will appear between the first two number characters on
the display. This indicates when the unit is energized and
heating
4.
Pass a low flow (about 500-cc/min) of air through the unit for
about one-hour. At the end of this interval all "spitting" of
water from the unit should have ceased.
5.
The purifier is now ready for operation
