The Istanbul Tanpınar Literature Festival
The Istanbul Tanpınar Literature Festival brings together
writers, publishers, literary translators, critics and journalists
for a series of inspirational encounters. This festival will take
place from the 30 th of October until the 3 rd of November
2013. Dutch authors Bibi Dumon Tak, Jan van Mersbergen,
Barbara Stok and Murat Isik will participate in this festival.
31 November and 2 November they will perform in 'Café
Amsterdam'. At this literary event the location will be turned
into an Amsterdam Café, where the Dutch authors will read
from their work and discuss with Turkish authors and the
audience.

ATTM Conference, Ankara
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has
supported this year’s Audio Technologies for Music and Media
(ATMM) Conference organized by the Bilkent University with
the participation of Paul Devens. He will give a workshop on
31 October and 1 November about “Recording Strategies” at
the Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and
Architecture, Department of Communication and Design.

Magisch Theater Mardin
This performance with puppets and masks, for adult
audiences, is a mystery play, based on the idea ‘ Panta
Rhei’, everything flows eternally, a thread, that connects the
short scenes in a poetical manner. The group will perform
their play in Mardin during the 4th International Mardin Child
and Youth Theatre Festivals’ at miscellaneous venues and its
two townships four times for 14+ and adult groups during
the Festival 1-8 November 2013

Exposition ‘Iki Nesil Renkler’
We would like to invite you to the opening of the exposition
‘Iki Nesil Renkler’. This is an exposition by two Dutch artists:
a painter and a photographer (father and son) Onno de
Bruyne and Joram de Bruyne. The exposition is from the 2 nd
until the 16th of November.

Turkish Policy Quarterly
Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ), an Istanbul-based policy
journal published since 2002, focused on "Gender Rights and
Freedoms in Turkey and the Arab World" in its Winter 2013
issue. In this issue, the legal, economic, political, and social
dimensions of the rights of women and LGBT individuals
were taken up by a range of authors from Turkey and the
region (www.turkishpolicy.com). As a follow up to this
debate, TPQ will be holding a two-session seminar titled
"Women and LGBT Rights in Turkey: Progressing or
Regressing?" on 6 November 2013 supported by the Matra
fund of the consulate general.

Conference on “Status of the Chief Public
Prosecutor’s Office at the Supreme Court in the
Appeal Process” Ankara, 6/11-7/11
Netherlands Institute for Higher Education Ankara, is
implementing a project entitled “Status of the Chief Public
Prosecutor’s Office at the Supreme Court in the Appeal
Process”. The project aims to raise awareness among
institutions and agencies with regard to the role of the Chief
Public Prosecutor’s Office in the appeal process; contribute to
the Constitutional and Legislative Amendments within the
framework of preparing a new constitution by the Grand
National Assembly, and create opportunity to learn about
the functioning of the judicial system, appeal procedures and
the role of the Prosecution Office at the Supreme Court in
the Netherlands. A conference in regard to the project shall
be held on 6-7 November 2013 at the Swiss Hotel, Ankara.
The Criminal Justice System and organizational and
institutional structure of the Chief Public Prosecutors of
Turkey and the Netherlands shall be discussed.

School of Local Politics for LGBTs
Starting from September 2013 SPoD has launched its Project
called “Bringing LGBT Perspective to Local Politics in Turkey”
aiming to increase the visibility of LGBT rights in political
sphere in Turkey, to build the capacities of LGBTs to make
claim from local governments, to deepen the relations
between LGBT organisations and political parties and to
contribute to the development of good practices in local
governments especially where pro-LGBT equality political
parties in power and out LGBTs are densely populated.
Within the framework of this project “School of Local Politics
for LGBTs” will be carried out from 11th to 17th of
November. The school curriculum will cover topics such as
Local governments and mechanisms for citizen participation,
gender sensitive and LGBT rights oriented local policies,
budgeting and financial structure in local governments and
election campaign strategies. The participants of the
program will be encouraged to engage in active politics.

Seminar on 'Social Media and Business'
The Economic and Commercial Department of the ConsulateGeneral of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Istanbul is

Street Dance Carnival
15 – 18 November the fifth Istanbul Street Dance Carnival
will be held. At this festival street dance performances will
take place and there will also be workshops for amateur
street dancers. The goal of the Street Dance Carnival is to
contribute to the development of street dance in Turkey and
to create a platform where professional and amateur
dancers, choreographers, musicians and DJ’s can exchange
their knowledge, skills and information and can learn from
each other.
