Georgia! We will attend all of the potential 5 playoff games, which are on Fridays or Saturdays
November 11 – December 9.
Marching Band Fees:
All students are asked to pay a Marching Band Participation Fee of $400. This fee is divided into two
payments; $150 is due with your “Marching Band Form” on or before Wednesday, May 11, and
$250 is due on or before Sunday, July 17. Checks should be made out to “North Gwinnett Band Parent
Association” and given to Mr. Kapral or Mr. Gilbert in the band office. Rising 9th graders may turn the
first payment into Mr. Downs or Ms. Schaps.
Gwinnett County requires that all students who use a county-owned instrument pay a $60 annual usage
fee. This includes percussion, low brass, horns, low reeds, piccolos, etc… Students who use multiple
school-owned instruments such as a sousaphone and a tuba, or a marching snare drum and concert band
marimba pay ONLY ONE $60 usage fee each year.
Additional expenses: Each participant needs marching shoes, long black socks, and a lyre specific to
their instrument. No lyre is required if you play flute, tuba or percussion. In addition lyres are provided
for school owned instruments. Lyres need to be purchased from a local music store. Marching shoes
can be purchased July 17 at the Marching Band registration. Wind players will be issued 2 pair of long
wristed black gloves for the season. Addition gloves will be available for purchase if needed.

MARCHING BAND ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance at all band functions is very important for the overall growth of the program. Students
absent during rehearsal pose problems for the band during drill and ensemble rehearsal. Students absent from
any performances hurt the group immensely, as they make large, visible holes in the drill and the part that they
play is musically decreased. Attendance at band camp is expected for every student. Any student missing a
camp rehearsal will be behind in the marching band preparation and cause the pace of rehearsal to slow down.
It would be appreciated if all vacations, doctor’s appointments, and any other conflicts could be scheduled
around the band camp and rehearsal times. Students moving into the area will be allowed to join the band after
the beginning of the school year at the directors' discretion.
All members of the marching band will attend each after school rehearsal to be considered eligible for
performances. An unexcused absence from an after school rehearsal will jeopardize the student’s status in that
week’s marching show. Absence will also jeopardize a student’s qualification for a varsity letter in band.
Should a student be involved in another school activity that conflicts with rehearsal/performance times, an
arrangement will be made between the director and the advisors/coaches. Excessive absence from rehearsals
and performances will jeopardize the student’s membership in the ensemble. Students will not be dismissed
after halftime without prior permission from the director. In the event that a member belongs to another
organization (non-school affiliated) that has scheduled another event at the same time as a North Gwinnett High
School Band function, the school band shall always take precedence. Effective communication between the
director and the students will usually resolve any conflicts.
All students will need to submit an absence request form no later than 2 weeks prior to the absence. This
form can be submitted on the band website. Once the directors receive your absence request form they will
determine if your absence is excused or unexcused based on the examples below. Any unexcused absence could
jeopardize the student’s performance participation, receiving their Varsity letter and/or future participation in
the marching band. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up with the Directors following the absence
request submission.
Examples of types of absence:
Excused Absences:
Personal Illness
Religious Holidays
Close Family wedding/funeral
College interviews (no other times available)
Private lessons (no other times available)
Unexcused absence:
Doctor/dentist appointments
Work scheduling conflict
School club meetings – without prior approval from the director
Drivers tests
Rock Concerts
Any other absence
