Midlands Creative Projects in association with the Belgrade Theatre Coventry and Bloodaxe Books presents the hundred years’ war This beautifully crafted production features three performers, live music and striking imagery to create a heart-wrenching drama whose every word is charged with poetry. Presenting 40 extraordinary war poems from across the world, all written between 1914 and 2013, this new production from Midlands Creative Projects fuses poetry and theatre to create a unique and deeply moving portrayal of life under fire. Featuring human stories from the trenches of the Somme to the horrors of the Second World War, Korea, the Middle East, Vietnam, Ireland, the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. Voices of all nations and creeds are represented, often from opposing sides, with verse from aggressor and victim, soldier and civilian, the wounded and those watching on in horror. This landmark production is profound, intimate and fundamentally human. “The audience for Midlands Creative Projects’ ‘The Hundred Years’ War’ was an intriguing mix of poetry buffs – new to us – and people who were new to poetry. It was extremely well received by everyone – the quality and the imagination of the performance brought all the different poems alive and it was a moving addition to our Season and a different way for the Belgrade to join in the current commemorations of the start of the First World War.” Joanna Reid, Executive Director, Belgrade Theatre Coventry Running time: Suitability: Requirements: Availability: Contact: Antonia Beck 95minutes with interval For ages 14+ Suitable for studio spaces, small-mid scale venues and rural touring March - October 2015 07908 210 468 www.livepoetry.org [email protected]
