RESOURCES: Course Book – Animo 2 (Sigue A2 to supplement it)
Each student is issued with their own personal copy of: Collins billingual dictionary, Acción
Gramática, The Big Red Book of Spanish Vocabulary and Animo AS/A2 Grammar
workbook, A2 AQA Grammar Workbook and a copy of “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” and
the dvd “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios”.
Despite having a textbook the vast majority of resources are taken and adapted from real
sources such as the Internet, newspapers and magazines.
ICT- Students will regularly use the Moodle course created by teachers and available via
the school´s website to supplement their studies in the classroom and to expand their
horizons in terms of independent learning and research. They will have access to Oxbox
(an interactive resource linked to Animo), Kerboodle (linked to AQA AS/A2 textbook) for
additional material and assessments, an Interactive Grammar workbook, Vocab Express
and an array of past papers and audio files. They will also make use of the Guided Studies
Options KesMoodle course in preparation for both the written and oral exams.
The School Learning and Resource Centre (LRC) has a wide collection of titles covering
Spanish and South-American history, civilisation and literature. The Department also has a
large collection of literary texts covering all periods from the medieval to the contemporary.
DVDs- the Department's collection of DVDs suitable for Sixth-Form is constantly growing.
The students are encouraged to take films home on a regular basis.
The Spanish assistant will see each student individually 25 mins per week. They will
develop the topics studied in class, will expand the students´ cultural knowledge of Spain
and will help them with their oral exam preparation.
The school has opted for the WJEC board and the topics to be studied are divided into two
main areas:

Environmental Issues: pollution, global warming, transport, energy, nuclear
energy, renewable energies, conservation, recycling, sustainability.

Social and Political Issues: including the role of the media, racism, immigration,
social exclusion and integration, terrorism, world of work (employment, commerce
and globalisation).

AUTUMN TERM (14 weeks)
TOPICS
Tema 1. La energía y la contaminación- pollution and climate change, alternative energy
sources, Is our lifestyle sustainable?
Tema 3. S.O.S ¡Protejamos nuestro planeta! – Reusing, reducing and recycling; public
and prívate transport, global development.
Tema 7. Talento hispano- Fiction and drama, film and visual arts, music and dance.
Tema 8. Patrimonio e historia- Latin America, Spain in Europe, Customs and beliefs.
(Topics 1 and 3 will be seen in great detail but 7 and 8 can be dedicated in less time)

Apart from the set topics the Spring term will be dedicated to prepare for the oral
examination and more specifically the expose.
TOPICS
Guided Studies Option- “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios”, film by
Almodovar which will be studied and analised in depth.
Tema 6- Avances científicos, médicos y tecnológicos- new technologies- the pros and
cons- , medical research and ethics, the future, where is technology taking us?
GRAMMAR
 Expressing the future using Future Perfect, Conditional Perfect and Subjunctive.
SKILLS
 Identifying main points and creating a summary.
 Different listening techniques.
 Discussing a film in an analytical way.
 Writing essays analysing a film.
 Describing characters and looking for symbols and themes when watching a film.

final examination, with plenty of past paper practice and exam technique exercises.

Focus should be placed on revision of the most challenging topics and structures,
making sure the students use them in context and not only on drill exercises; they also
have to write a good number of essays on the guided studies option topics.

GSPL: two 50 mins sessions over the 2 week
cycle
GSPL will dedicate one lesson a week to introduce and practise grammar points with both
classes, as well as practising debating skills and supporting with the preparation of the oral
exam.
Resources: Animo AS/A2 Grammar workbook, AQA A2 Grammar Workbook, AQA
AS textbook, Kerboodle, Oxbox, Vocab Express (the Grammar section) and a wealth of
photocopiable resources as well as resources taken from the Internet.

GSPL will set written homework as well as learning tasks to make sure the students
learn endings and common usage. Assessments will be done regularly.
