Her mother tenderly encircling her
with her arms drew her to her, and thus

entreating God to give strength to herself
and child, patiently to yield to his will in
this, their hour of trial.
"My child, the Bible tells us that
'man is born to trouble, as the sparks
fly upward.' ' Afflictions spring not from
the dust.' Every trial is of God's appointment, and the gracious intention is,
that each wave of trouble, that rolls at
his command, may bear us nearer our
heavenly home. He would by his providential dealings teach us, this is not
our rest."
