Georgia Rattlers - City of Atlanta, Georgia

In Honor of the Georgia Rattlers
Whereas,
Atlanta City Councilmembers Andre Dickens and Carla Smith join the City of Atlanta
Department of Parks and Recreation in honoring the Georgia Rattlers as the 2013 Georgia
Recreation and Parks Association Class A/B Midget Division Football Champions; and
Whereas,
The Georgia Rattlers were the first Atlanta football team to win the state GRPA
Championship in decades after defeating Sumter County 40-8 on Sunday, December 15,
2013 at Americus Sumter High School in Americus, Georgia; and
Whereas,
This great team has positively affected numerous communities in their short history, including
John F. Kennedy Park, Grove Park, Central Park, Mosley Park and Grant Park. It has
served as a sports outlet for over 1,100 youth in our City; and
Whereas,
Georgia Rattlers athletics began from humble beginnings in 2008. After the closing of all the
City recreation centers, founders Latrez Harrison and his brother Charles Philips took action.
Seeing that the kids were suffering from a lack of a community league sports option, they
founded Georgia Rattlers Inc. in July of that year. Using their own money, Latrez Harrison
and Charles Philips not only purchased equipment, they also purchased uniforms for the kids;
and
Whereas,
The Georgia Rattlers would like to thank Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner
George Dusenbury, Athletic Director Romondo Davidson and Executive Director Annika
Holder for their unwavering support; and
Whereas,
With this proclamation, the Atlanta City Council honors Coaches Latrez Harrison, Kenneth
Brannan, Sean Burage, Kevin Kooper, Kenny Arnold Sr., Anthony Lowe, Suane Swift,
Eddie Gibson, team mom Kechial Sanders and the 30 Players of the 2013 Champion
Georgia Rattlers.
Now Therefore Be It Resolved that, We, the members of the Atlanta City Council on behalf of the citizens of
Atlanta hereby proclaim the 21st Day of January 2014 as “Georgia Rattlers Day” in our great city in
recognition of an organization that strives to be the best in every endeavor, on and off the field.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, WE HAVE
HEREUNTO SET OUR HANDS AND
CAUSED THE SEAL OF THE CITY
OF ATLANTA TO BE AFFIXED
