Snow DaysP4-P7

Literacy
Similes compare two things by using the words
'like' or 'as'.
Think of things about the snow or animals that
live in it.
Write some similes about them.
Illustrate one of your similes
Here is a simile about snow:
The snow looked like silver beads on my coat.
Think about it!
Why can you see your breath in winter?
Why do the days get shorter in the winter?
Why are no two snowflakes the same?
What is the difference between sleet, hail, and freezing
rain?

name and use each letter in the name as the beginning of
a word or line that tells something about that person or
topic.

Science
Ice Magic Try out this “magic trick” with an ice cube,
string and salt. Place an ice cube in a cup of water. Cut
a piece of string a few inches long. Ask a friend to
try to pick up the ice cube using just the string and not
their fingers. They will see that it does not work.
Now dip the end of the string in the water and lay it
across the ice cube. Sprinkle some salt on top of both
the ice cube and the string. Wait a minute or so and
then try to pick up the ice again using just the string.
It should work this time because the salt will have
melted the ice slightly and the water will have refrozen
around the string. Amazing!
Birds
Design and Make
Design a snow sculpture then go out
and build it. Take a photo to record
your efforts. If you can, upload your
photo onto Glow.
Build a unique Snowman and upload a
picture to the Snowman Challenge
page on our Snow Glow Group.
Sometimes when we go to the beach, I will get sun burn.
Usually if I put Sun block on my skin, I will not burn.
Noon is when I'm really prone to burning.
Write a Winter acrostic poem or write a Snowman
acrostic poem.
Art
Create a piece of art to show the winter
scene outside your window. Post on the glow
group or bring into school when open.
Illustrate the word 'Winter' with seasonal
images.
