Smallwoods magazine is the quarterly members magazine of the Small Woods Association,
Britain’s leading organisation for the hands-on woodland enthusiast. The magazine has
been in existence for fifteen years, and under the editorship of Nick Gibbs for almost all of
that time has developed into a well respected magazine with appeal for all those who are
interested in woodlands, from professional foresters to those new to the sector.
We are now looking for a new freelance Editor to continue this development, and enhance
its role in recruiting and retaining members.
Role description





Working with the Membership Services Manager and other staff, identify and deliver
content, whether articles, news, reviews or letters.
Liaise with authors and chase as necessary to ensure timely delivery of content
Design pages within our existing template
Deliver print ready PDFs to our printers at agreed deadlines
Attend two meetings per year of our Editorial Subcommittee
What are we looking for?





Experience of writing and publishing for the voluntary, charity or environmental
sector
Interest in and knowledge of woodlands and current issues in the sector
Evidence of pro-actively identifying and delivering content from a range of authors
and organisations
Competence in a range of appropriate IT and DTP tools
Good time management and evidence of ability to deliver to deadlines.

work. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend for interview at our base at the Green
Wood Centre, Coalbrookdale, Telford on 29th June. The new Editor will be expected to pick
up the role in time to lead on our 1st October edition.
