1. Analyze Poe’s short story, “Masque of the Red Death.” 2.) Be sure to read the story several times and also refer to your literary notes from Holt to help you (pp. 418-431). 3.) Read the prompt carefully and answer it in one sentence. This is your thesis. 4.) Analyze the symbolic and allegorical elements of the story and include textual evidence in your essay. 5.) Be sure to define “allegory” and “symbolism” in your introduction. 6.) Provide concrete examples to back your analysis. Provide context before a quote, then use direct quotes from the story as evidence. You should also provide commentary to explain how your quote is a relevant example to support your point. 7.) The essay should be: no less than two pages, typed, double spaced, well-edited, and include a Work Cited page. You need to cite Poe’s story from the Holt text. 8.) Be sure to read the instructions/prompt posted online and follow them. 9.) Print and use the Peer-Editing Worksheet that’s posted online.
