Dear <Name>
As part of our commitment to provide safe and reliable electric service, we have identified
the need to upgrade equipment at the Harvard Substation. We initiated the Harvard
Substation Conversion Project to meet the growing needs of the area and to enhance
electric service reliability. The purpose of this letter is to tell you about completed and
planned work in your area this year.
Over the last several years with the Conversion Project, we installed over nine miles of
underground cable and replaced several transformers in the area. The current phase of the
Harvard Conversion Project includes converting four feeders to higher voltage feeders.
Feeders are power lines that provide service to about 1,100 people within a neighborhood.
We also plan to install or replace approximately 18,500 feet of underground cable, 45
transformers and four manholes. More details about this plan and future work, including a
detailed map, can be found in the enclosed fact sheet.
Near the conclusion of the Harvard Substation Conversion Project, we anticipate a
scheduled outage will be required so we can transfer electricity from the old cables to the
higher voltage cables. We will provide advance notice 72 hours before the scheduled outage
will take place. In addition, installation of underground cables will require some temporary
lane closures. We are coordinating with the District of Columbia Department of
Transportation to plan how to safely redirect traffic.
Our expected work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and
5 p.m. We expect this phase of the Conversion Project will be completed in December 2016.
As with other projects, we will work as quickly and safely as we can and take all efforts to
cause the least inconvenience possible to you and your neighbors. To learn more about
other reliability improvements, visit our website at pepco.com/reliability. If you have any
questions, please contact Travoris Culpepper at [email protected] or (202) 872-2024.
Sincerely,
Marc Battle
