Barry takes the CabriO
Over a dozen of the legendary St. Bernard dogs (known in some quarters as Barrys
after a famous mountain rescue dog) are coming to sniff the mountain air of Central
Switzerland on 30 July 2016 and ascending the Stanserhorn via the vintage
funicular railway and unique CabriO aerial cableway.
Two Swiss symbols at a stroke – the St. Bernards from the Great St. Bernard Hospice
taking on the Unterwald Prealps. Saturday, 30 July finds St. Bernard fanciers and naturelovers getting together on the Stanserhorn with more than a dozen of the breed supplied
by the Barry Foundation to discover and walk on the mountain.
Special offer
Visitors can take advantage of a special price of CHF 69.00 for adults and CHF 25.00 for
children, to include the return trip up the mountain, lunch in the revolving restaurant, a
round walk with the dogs in the company of a ranger, and a demonstration of the unique
capabilities of our St. Bernards. Musical accompaniment will be by the Trio St. Jakob.
Registration required: [email protected]. Further information at: www.fondationbarry.ch.
CabriO aerial cableway, Stanserhorn
A novel cableway system allows visitors to glide up the Stanserhorn in the open air.
Boasting two double-deck cabins featuring an open top deck, this cableway is the only one
of its type in the world. The dogs will be able to enjoy wonderfully refreshing and
agreeable rides up and down the mountain in the company of their owners.
Mountain pass walks with St. Bernards
Twice a day in July and August, visitors have a chance to accompany the St. Bernards on
an hour-and-a-half’s walk over a mountain pass on the dogs’ home patch. “This is a
unique opportunity to experience the dogs in this historically significant place with its
fabulous Alpine backdrop,” says Manuel Gaillard, Head of Dogs and Breeding. Each walk
is limited to ten participants, so registration is highly recommended by emailing
[email protected].

The Barry Foundation
After its establishment in 2005, the Barry Foundation took over the management of the breeding kennels
and its famous Saint Bernards from the Holy Order of the Canons Regular of Grand Saint Bernard. Since
then, the Foundation has been the owner of the 300-year-old breeding kennels, which are the oldest and
most significant in the world for the Swiss national dog. The non-profit organisation is committed to
preserving the famous, legendary dogs of the Great Saint Bernard pass, and to maintaining the typical
hospice Saint Bernard, Switzerland's national dog. Furthermore, the Foundation's aim is to bring joy into
the lives of as many people as possible by enabling them to meet the Saint Bernards. It makes an active
contribution towards improving the relationship between people and dogs. The Barry Foundation
currently owns 28 bitches and 7 males. 20 pedigree puppies are born at the breeding kennels on
average each year. The breeding kennels are financed mainly by a variety of different types of donation.
