Lou Ann Berman Assistant Vice President for Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness The University of Texas at Tyler As the current Assistant Vice President for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Lou Ann Berman has oversight responsibility for all administrative unit and academic program assessment planning. The Office of Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness also administers, coordinates, and/or disseminates results from campus-wide surveys and academic assessment instruments such as the ETS Proficiency Profile, the Collegiate Learning Assessment, the National Survey of Student Engagement, the NoelLevitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, the Noel-Levitz Adult Student Priorities Survey, and the university graduation exit survey. While at UT Tyler, Dr. Berman has served as the Assistant Vice President for Student Life, the Assistant Vice President for Student Success, and as the Executive Director for Community Relations and Student Success. Previously, Dr. Berman taught Dental Hygiene for 14 years at Tyler Junior College and served as the Dean of the School of Allied Health & Nursing (previously the School of Health & Natural Sciences) for eight years. She taught Health Education/Health Studies courses part time at Stephen F. Austin State University and at The University of Texas at Tyler. Dr. Berman has participated in numerous professional activities related to assessment, including most recently attending the SACS-COC Evaluator Training Workshop in December 2010. She was the recipient of a grant from The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – “Patriot Summer Bridge to Success” in 2007 and has served as an Allied Health Grant Peer Reviewer for the Health Resources and Services Administration. She has participated as a SACS-COC community college peer reviewer on several campuses and has served as a site visitor for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Additionally, she was a member of the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) Maintenance Committee as well as a WECM Workshop Facilitator during its initial development. Dr. Lou Ann Berman graduated Cum Laude with an A.A.S. from the Dental Hygiene program at Tyler Junior College and Cum Laude with a B.A.A.S. in Health Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She completed a M.Ed. in Health Education at the University of Texas at Tyler and a Ph.D. in Health Studies from Texas Woman’s University.
