VETERANS DAY CONCERT Sandburg/DCS is having a Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10, from 2:50-3:20pm in the Commons. The choir is singing two songs and there will be a short program. There will also be a video presentation prepared by the Leadership Team. Parents are invited to join us! If you are planning on bringing a Veteran, please let Principal Heather Frazier know at [email protected]. Red carnations will be presented to all Veterans attending to recognize them (if they so desire). FOOD DRIVES Sandburg Food Drive: November 9-18 Help Hopelink provide food for those in need within our community this holiday season! Each class will have a bin where you may drop off your donations. The class that collects the most items will win a prize! Most needed items are: Canned meals Canned meat (tuna, chicken, etc) Cereal/Oats Beans (dry and canned) Fruit (canned, fresh of frozen) Grains (pasta, rice, quinoa, barley, etc) Nut butters (peanut butter, almond butter, etc) Soup and broths Vegetables (canned, fresh or frozen) Cooking Oils Flour and Sugar Spices Boxed Stuffing We greatly appreciate your support! DCS Community Outreach Food Drive: November 7-18 Collect your favorite cans and bring them in to school for our November food drive to benefit Northwest Harvest! Need really has no season, so we are going to pack the food pantries for local families not only for a great Thanksgiving, but also for a well-stocked cabinet long after this month. Each classroom will have a collection box and the classroom which collects the most will get smoothies! PTSA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Assistant Treasurer Needed: The Sandburg/DCS PTSA is seeking an Assistant/Co-Treasurer for the remainder of the 2016-2017 year. This board member will assist the Treasurer with various financial transactions (preparing deposits, accounts payable, reporting and providing customer assistance to program volunteers with financial questions.) If you would like additional information or are interested please contact Shannon Kruger at [email protected] Volunteer Webmaster Needed: The Sandburg/DCS PTSA Communications Team is seeking a Volunteer Webmaster to lead a refresh of the OurSchoolPages site and to assist program volunteers with setting up new events. This is an ideal position for a volunteer not available during school hours but wishes to contribute to the success of our PTSA. Nominating Committee forming: We are seeking two additional members for the Nominating Committee. This group will be seeking volunteers for the 2017-2018 PTSA Board. SCRAPBOOK PROJECT FOR BETTE As many of you know, Sandburg's amazing Secretary, Bette Duffy, will be retiring after winter break. She has touched many families over the years. PTSA will be sponsoring a school wide scrapbook to present to her. Each classroom will have 2 12x12 pages they will be using. If you have pictures, stories, memories or well wishes you'd like to add to the scrapbook please contact your classroom teacher. The due date for this project is Tuesday, November 29th. We welcome any alumni families or outside community to take place in this project as well. Any questions about this can be directed to Jessica Booth at [email protected]. CRAFT FAIR INFORMATION The PTSA Annual Holiday Craft Fair is on Saturday, December 3rd from 10am2pm, where students and their siblings can create simple craft projects to gift to others or just keep for themselves. This event is always highly anticipated by our Sandburg/DCS families, and in order for this event to run smoothly, we need parent volunteers. **Our biggest need is for volunteers to help prep the materials weeks in advance, set up the day before the event, and help on the day of the event. HERBICIDE FREE Big thanks to Yifan Yang, Tracie Wilhelm, Diana DiTolla, Susan Vossler, Nga Ngo, Christina Scholl for their strong effort last Sunday at keeping our school grounds looking great and Herbicide Free! They did a great job, and we got lucky with the weather! We truly do need more of our areas adopted out, ASAP!! Are you interested in keeping our school Herbicide Free? Adopt an area with a friend or two! You can chat and work while your kids play on the playground. Great social time for you AND your kiddos! SCHOOL PICTURE INFORMATION School picture retakes will be November 29th from 9am-11am. *Parents volunteers can come to take badge pictures too! LWSD NOVEMBER NEWS During this month of giving thanks, Lake Washington Schools Foundation would like to express our gratitude to all our wonderful teachers, parents and community members for your support of the foundation. With your help: High school students are working with kilns in a new 3D art class that teaches sculptural techniques that include clay/ceramics - 3D Art Kiln, Eastlake High School Elementary teachers are using an online assessment program that measures student’s grade level in reading and math, so students can succeed and teachers have access to data which helps plan appropriate instruction – STAR Reading & Math, Muir Elementary Middle school students are using new tools to make close observations, collect data and draw conclusions in science – Using Scientific Tools for Observation, Renaissance Middle School These programs would not be possible without your support!
