he “new world meets old world” Chilean wine, by TerraMater, was
presented at a wine tasting event organized by Wine Connection
Co., Ltd (Hua Hin Branch) in association with Putahracsa. Six
different labels between red and white wines were in display last month
for invited guests at Function Terrace, Putahracsa Resort Hua Hin. Among
those guests was Mr. Anders Hagstedt, F&B Manager of Black Mountain
Golf Club, who won a pop quiz and received the winning prize granted
by Mr. José Miguel Montes, Export Manager of TerraMater and Mr. Nicolas
Grailard, Hua Hin Sales Executive of Wine Connection.
The displayed wines included Paso Del Sol - Sauvigon Blanc 2007,
TerraMater - Maipo DO - Sauvigon Blanc 2006/07, TerraMater Reserva
- Central Valley - Chardonnay 2006, Paso Del Sol - Cabernet Sauvignon
2005/06, TerraMater - Maipo DO - Shiraz - Cabernet 2005 and
TerraMater Reserva - Central Valley - Shiraz 2006.
“They taste good and also different from French wine, especially the red
wines. These are stronger,” said wine lover Ms. Neumann Jean-claude from
France, adding that her favorites were the white wines, the TerraMater Maipo DO - Sauvigon Blanc 2006/07 being top of her list.
What allowed TerraMater to be able to make their finest and best
quality wine, Export Manager José told us, is the country’s microclimate
and geography. Having no rainfall during the hot dry summer, low
temperature and a lot of rain during winter and low humidity makes
Chile the next best place to grow vines, for example the valleys of Maipo,
Curicó and Maule, where the three 700 hectare TerraMater vineyards are
located.
Besides the advantages of the climate, the geography and the
locations, the wine making process is important as well. “We have good
vineyard management. We have a good control of the ripeness. We hand
pick the grapes and we take good care of every single detail,” said the
export manager while giving the presentation.
TerraMater was established in 1996 by the Canepa sisters. Their
products are exported to thirty seven countries all over the world.
TerraMater products have received gold and silver medals from many
important international wine events in Europe and Asia. Their recent
gold medal awards are from VINALIES INTERNATIONALES in France in
March 2008 with the label named Altum Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Curico Valley and from KOREA WINE CHALLENGE 2008 with the label
name Unusual Carmenere-Shiraz 2003.
