Eickhoff started his career on the East coast, a ending Western Reserve University School of Medicine and comple ng his internal medicine residency and infec ous disease fellowship training at Boston City Hospital. He worked in epidemiology at the CDC and then joined the faculty at the University of Colorado in 1967 where he served as the head of the infec ous disease division for 14 years. Eickhoff has remained out west ever since. Dr. Eickhoff has served as a consultant to the CDC, FDA and the American Hospital Associa on. He’s also served on each of the federal commi ees that deal with vac‐ cines, including CDC’s Advisory Commi ee on Immuniza on Prac ces, FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Com‐ mi ee, and the DHHS Na onal Vaccines Advisory Commi ee. Dr. Eickhoff is a past‐president of both the Infec ous Disease Society of America, and the American Epidemiological Society. But there is at least one major difference, and this is a point to be em‐ phasized: The Edward Jenner Vaccine Society is a truly interna onal society.” History of Vaccines The ACIP, designed to provide the CDC with expert vaccine‐use recommendations, holds its first meeting 2003 1964 First adult immunization schedule introduced in the U.S. In a recent study published in the journal Cancer, researches found the number of cancers related to HPV increased throughout the U.S. before the HPV vaccine was available. Cancers thought to be related to the sexually transmi ed infec on increased between 1978 and 2007. According to the CDC, HPV is thought to be responsible for an es mated 27,900 cervical, vulvar, vaginal, anal, penile and head and neck cancers in America every year. Read more about this study here. In May, Pediatrics published a study that outlined the effec veness of vari‐ cella vaccine. This 14‐year cohort study included more than 7,000 children who were vaccinated from 1995 to 2009. It was reported that chickenpox cases decreased about 10‐fold compared to the period before the vaccine was available. Another note of importance is the immunity did not wane over me.
