Some Grid basics
There are some basic features and terminology of the grid that it would be helpful for you to understand. This
terminology will be used throughout this help document.
Here is the basic grid and an identification of what each area is named:
Group by Box: You can drag
column headers here to have
the grid group the data.
Column Header Row: This lists
the individual data fields
available for you to view. Use
these column headers when
performing sort or group
commands.
Filter Row: Use this row to
enter values that will limit the
rows shown in the grid.
Pager: This area allows you to page through the data in the grid.
It also informs you of how many rows the grid contains. The
numbers represent the page numbers of each page. Simply click
a number and go to that page. If you click the ‘All’ button the grid
will be loaded without pages and all the data will be shown. You
will need to use the vertical and horizontal scrollbars to view the
overflow data. If after clicking the ‘All’ button you click a page
number the grid will return to page mode.
Using the Data Grid
The data grid can be used to quickly find the vehicles you want. The grid is enabled with fast features for sorting,
grouping and filtering the data list. Below are instructions and examples to help you use the grid more effectively.
Please contact us at KAASP if you have questions not answered by this help document.
1. Sorting the data.
Data is easily sorted by simply clicking on the column header. The first time you click a column header the
data will be sorted in ascending order. If you click again the column will be sorted in descending order. If you
click a column header while holding down the ‘Ctrl’ key the sort will be removed. An up or down triangle will
appear in the column header to show you the current sort order. Here is an example of what you will see
after clicking a column header:
Notice the up triangle in the Auction column
header
To sort by multiple columns simply hold down the ‘Shift’ key and click the columns in the order you want the
rows sorted.
2. Grouping the data.
Grouping the data will help you find what you find the specific items you are looking for. At the top of the grid
there is a gray bar with the literal ‘Drag a column here to group by that column’. Simply click on the column
header you want to group by and continue holding the left mouse button down and drag the column header
up to the gray bar at the top. Release the mouse button to drop the column header on the group by bar. The
grid will then group the data by that column of data.
In this example we did a drag and drop of the ‘Make’ column which will group our data and it will look like
this:
Simply click the ‘+’ sign to expand the group and it
would look like this:
Click the minus sign and the group will collapse.
You can group by multiple columns by dragging multiple column headers to the gray bar. Here is an example
where the data is grouped by make and model:
When you want to remove the groupings simply drag the column header from the gray bar back to the grid
column header row. You can drop the column header back where it came from or you can drop it in a new
location if you would prefer. As you scroll over the column header row two small white triangles will show
you where the column will be placed if you drop it:
Keep in mind that you can combine the group and the sort features. For example you might want to group by
Auction Date and then sort the rows in ‘Make’ order. To do this simply drag the Auction Date column up to
the gray bar and after the grid finishes grouping then click the ‘Make’ column. This will sort each Auction Date
group by ‘Make’.
3. Filtering the Data.
This is the most powerful feature of the grid. It allows you to find exactly what you want. The filter bar is
located directly below the column header row. There are empty boxes or dropdown lists where you can enter
delimiters that will select only the data you want to see. Here are some basic rules:






To apply a filter simply complete the entry and press the ‘Enter’ key. Or wait 2 seconds and the filter
will automatically be applied.
To remove a filter simply delete the value you entered.
You can filter by as many columns and values as you wish.
By default the filter condition for a non-numeric column is ‘Begins With’. Therefore you can simply
type ‘chev’ if you want to filter all the vehicles and retrieve only the Chevrolet units.
By default the filter condition for a numeric column is ‘Equals’.
The filter row is not case sensitive so either ‘ford’ or ‘FORD’ will return the same results.
In this example we filtered the grid to show only vehicles with a ‘Make’ of ‘FORD’.
If you see a small down triangle in the filter box this indicates that the column is a check box (checked means
true and unchecked is false). Filter these rows by clicking the down triangle and selecting one of the values:
Next to some of the filter boxes you will see an icon of a key . You can refine your search by clicking this
icon which will give you a list of conditions that your filter must meet. For example we might want to filter the
grid to show us only those items where the Buy Now Price is greater than $5,000. To do this we would enter
5000 in the filter box and then click the key icon and select the option of ‘Is Greater Than’.
