Project Description
Project Requirements
Deportivo Cali Football Club has a new multi-purpose stadium with a
capacity for 55.000 fans and 5,000 car parking spaces, together with
additional restaurants, a shopping centre and the football club museum.
The whole development covers an area of 200,000 m2, with 66,000 m2
being the FIFA Quality Standard stadium footprint.
There are also many VIP areas and individual hospitality suites, together
with Television and communication facilities and other supplementary
services.
The location is close to the City of Cali, the Cali Palmira highway and
other municipalities in the Valle del Cauca that give the development a
regional importance.
The stands are more than 30m high with a seating capacity of 37,500;
they are accessed via lifts and stairs from pedestrian walkways that
lead from the ramps that enter the stadium at the 4.8m level.
The hospitality suites are located in the East and West stands, spread
over five floors; each suite has a private bathroom, air conditioning,
audio and communication facilities, sliding glass doors then lead
outside to a balcony box with nine seats for each suite..
Due to the complex but uniform design the structure has been designed
and built using a combination of precast units and insitu concrete (cast
in place).
The size and scale of the project meant that the precast elements had
to be produced with a turnaround cycle of 18-24 hours, by which time
the units had to achieve at least 60% of their final strengths, so that
they could be safely and securely handled.
As most of the surfaces are exposed, the finishes of both the precast
and insitu concrete has to be fair-faced and of an excellent architectural standard.
In order to quickly and securely install the precast concrete units and
assemble them into the structure, structural grouts and fixings were
required, plus all of the joints had to be bonded together and/or sealed
to ensure they remain watertight.
Additional abrasion resistant flooring and terrace surfacing, tile adhesives and grouts, together with decorative protection of the exposed
façades was also required.
Sika Solutions
Using Sika concrete admixtures, the precast and the site placed
concrete was consistently produced throughout the construction period.
The desired turnaround times for the moulds were easily achieved and
without any additional energy requirements.
Sikadur®, Sika® AnchorFix® and SikaGrout® systems were
used for all of the structural fixing, bedding and sealing of the precast
units and their connections.
Joints in the terraces and the façade were sealed with Sikaflex®,
the public access floors and ramp ssurfaces were made extremely hard
wearing and abrasion resistant using Sikafloor®-3 Quartz Top
Dry Shake. Tiles throughout the project were bonded and grouted with
SikaCeram®.
Project Participants
For the concrete production the admixtures used were
