Students tour the Tampa Museum of Art on Tues. and Thur., the work of Edgar Degas primary among the displays. The session is taught by UT Adjunct Professor and Tampa Museum of Art tour guide Jacque Simmons. PATRIOT SOCCER: Campers entering 2nd - 12th Grade | Donna Holyman & Melissa Lisi 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 All players get ready for a fun week of learning coached by a former University of Colorado Soccer Player. The group will be split based on age. Basic skills and techniques of dribbling, passing, and shooting will be the focus. The week will end in World Cup style with each team representing a country for competition. ADVANCED BASKETBALL: Campers entering 6th - 12th Grade | Baker Mabry & Mario Lovett | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 This camp offers a unique, challenging training environment focusing on the techniques of shooting, ball handling, and defensive footwork. It will also introduce key concepts and philosophies used in our boys varsity basketball program at CDS. June 13 - 17 Camps CAMP INVENTION: Campers entering 2nd - 6th Grade | Ashley Mabry | 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. | $250 The Camp Invention program instills vital 21st century life skills such as problem-solving and teamwork through hands-on fun! This year we will be doing the SPARK Program which includes the following modules: Wild: Wondrous Innovations and Living Designs, The Curious Cypher Club, Bounce! INTERNATIONAL COOKING WEEK: Campers entering 2nd - 6th Grade | Jaime Melton | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 This camp will teach children how to mix, mold, and create delicious meals and healthy snacks... the cultural way! They’ll learn a little something about a different country each day, taste their way through the food groups, and make recipe books to take home. CSI (Forensic Science For Kids): Campers entering 3rd - 6th Grade | Barbie Monty | 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. | $250 Criminals beware and kids prepare during this weeklong super fun and educational crime scene investigative camp! Students will enjoy collecting and studying dental impressions and fingerprints of their fellow forensic campers. They will be checking out teeth marks left at the scene of a crime, analyzing mysterious powders, and discovering hidden clues in counterfeit checks, just to name a few of the amazing activities. Our crime scene campers will be engaged in hands-on, detailed, exciting, forensic science experiments during this camp. June 27 - July 1 Camps ROBOTICS: Campers entering 4th - 8th Grade | Morgen Schmitt | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 Campers will work in teams to design and build autonomous robots using First League LEGO elements, then program the robots to complete creative missions using NXT software. The week will culminate with a presentation to family and friends and a demonstration of the robots! THE GREAT ART ADVENTURE: Campers entering 5th - 8th Grade | Sarah Krupp | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 Each day brings a new art adventure: Super Artist!, The Great Art Detective, Mad Art Scientists, Art Historian and Safari Nature Artist. Become Great Art Detectives, using vast deductive prowess to solve the mysterious disappearance of a very important work of art. Morph into Super Artists, creating your own super hero identities in order to solve world problems. Every day is a new quest – are you ready? AIKIDO: Campers entering 5th - 8th Grade | Gina Boccolucci | 1 p.m - 4 p.m. | $150 An emerging martial art, Aikido is an amazing form of self-defense. Its growing popularity stems in part from the relative ease and speed with which basic concepts can be absorbed, as well as its lack of violence. Masters of Aikido thwart and subdue multiple attackers with minimal striking, punching, and kicking. Sensei Gina Boccolucci of the Florida Aikido Center in Tampa is the chief instructor, and students will be bused to the FAC dojo each day and back to CDS by 4 p.m. The FAC website describes Aikido as “a Japanese martial art best described as a ‘way’ or ‘path’ to self-improvement, health and wellness. Aikido is a defensive system that focuses on technique and balance, not physical strength, size or power.” HEROES OF MYTH: Campers entering 2nd - 5th Grade | Jacque Simmons | 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. | $150 Art and Literary History has never been this fun! Every day analyze different heroes from literature, from Hercules to Harry Potter. Where do heroes come from, how did they originate, what makes a hero? Students tour the Tampa Museum of Art’s Classical collection one day. Another day they’ll create their own hero and explain their powers and story. The session is taught by UT Adjunct Professor and Museum of Art tour guide. ***NEW*** BE A STAR: Campers entering grades 1 – 12 | Nicole, Jaclyn, & Danielle Baker | 9:00 am – 2:00 pm | $250 Spend a week living your dream. This camp features workshops on modeling, acting, acrobatics, and personal fitness. Participants will learn a dance routine. The workshops will be led by CDS graduates, Nicole, Jaclyn, and Danielle Baker. The Baker sisters are professional dancers who have studied with dancing legends Ben Vereen, Gregory Hines and Ann Reinking and have performed on TV and on stage across the US and Europe. July 11 - 15 Camps INTERNATIONAL GRAFFITI - Expression Now!: Campers entering 5th - 8th Grade | Katie McDermott | 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. | $150 Oversized paper replaces sidewalks and walls as the canvas for artistic expression in the style of graffiti artists across the globe. Learn about graffiti murals used to clean up city streets and revive culture. Develop your own style and purpose while learning how to apply spray paint in the different graffiti styles and create your own! LEGO CAMP: Campers entering 2nd - 5th Grade | Morgen Schmitt | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $150 This camp is designed to keep students engaged and excited about the process of designing and creating LEGO elements. Students will learn basic physics or engineering principles then work cooperatively to create the tallest skyscraper, sturdy ships, crazy contraptions and more! There will also be some special LEGO Star Wars builds and each student will take home their own small Dark Side Robot!! MATH FOR EVERY DAY . . . During the morning, students will be engaged in activities designed to increase their basic math skills. New students will be introduced to the vocabulary, algorithms, and games, providing them a base for their upcoming courses. Sixth grade students will have the opportunity to hone their skills on some of the traditional methods as well. This camp will offer a simple and efficient system for improving study habits. Students will be SOARing: setting goals, organizing, asking questions, and recording progress. The strategies that will be taught are designed to help students earn better grades, work more efficiently, and develop confidence. In addition to this, the strategies are fast to use, easy to remember, provide results quickly, apply across subject areas, and encourage active participation from the family. OLYMPIC HISTORY: Campers entering 5th - 8th Grade | Jacque Simmons | 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. | $150 Blood, Guts and Gore! The Spectacular Athletes of the Olympics and the Entertainments of the Gladiators. Explore the original Olympic Games of the Greeks & the Gladiatorial games of the Romans, from the Temple of Zeus to the Roman Coliseum. This is sure to fire up the imagination while learning at the same time. Students will tour the Tampa Museum of Art’s Classical Galleries one day. This camp is for anyone interested in learning to play a band instrument. Instruments and portable music stand must be provided by the student. A short pre-camp conference will be required to determine which instrument the student will play. August 1 - 4 Camps ***NEW*** T.O.A.D.S.: Campers entering grades 6 – 8 | Jamie Culbreath | 9:00 am – 11:30 pm | Cost: $100 Does your child have the middle school jitters? This camp is perfect to help acclimate your student into the middle school. It will teach organizational, study, and test taking skills to assist your student to success. The camp has been implemented for 12 years and is proven to alleviate middle school stresses and anxiety. ***NEW*** C.R.O.A.K.I.E.S.: Campers entering grades 6 – 8 | Jamie Culbreath | 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm | Cost: $100 This class compliments the T.O.A.D.S. class but focuses more on enrichment.
