VKCM1 Description of Project/Purpose of Assignment: Marymead has been operating in the Canberra and surrounding NSW region for 50 years, delivering therapeutic and support services to meet the needs of children, young people and families in the community. Our organisation has a justifiable reputation for the delivery of high quality services to support vulnerable children, young people and families. The Kids’ Companions Program (KCP) provides social support and experiences to children and young people impacted by disability. KCP One-to-One Match Ups facilitates a compatible one-to-one match between you, our volunteer, and one of our children. You will share social, community based activities on a regular basis. This social activity does not need to be the same activity every time. If you would enjoy the occasional day out providing this support to an individual child and enjoy working with those impacted by disability then this role may be for you! Outline of Volunteer’s Responsibilities or List of Tasks The successful volunteers will: Engaging with our children and young people to ensure they have a positive experience during the day Provide social activities of interest to the child Transport the child to and from social activities at agreed times Ensure the child is fed if the session spans over half a day Ensure the child is safe throughout the experience Having fun yourself Outcomes/Goals: To know that things are going well, we will see: Your child enjoying themselves and speaking positively about their experiences with you You being involved with your child No complaints regarding your sessions Training and Support Plan: You will be required to attend an interview with the KCP and Student Placement and Volunteer Coordinators. This will also allow you to ask any further questions to learn more about the program. Any KCP One-to-One Match Ups specific information will be provided to you as required via an agreed medium (meetings, phone or email). If you require additional support or have any concerns, you will have access to the: Volunteer Role Description Page 1 of 2 KCP Coordinator Student Placement and Volunteer Coordinator Reporting: Scheduled visits are organised through the KCP Coordinator prior to them taking place. You will be required to provide a written report to the KCP Coordinator after each session. Any incidents that arise during your sessions or any concerns your may have about your child are to be reported to the KCP Coordinator. Time Commitment: You will be required to commit up to one day every four to six weeks. Qualifications, Experience, Qualities or other requirements: You will be matched to a child based on each other interests and compatibility. Activities you arrange must be are age appropriate, take place in public areas and are activities which your child can participate in. For this role, it is essential that you: Have a strong commitment to working with children/young people impacted by disabilities and their families; Are able to work as part of a team Are 18 years of age or above Have a current Working with Vulnerable People card (free for volunteers) Have a satisfactory AFP Police Check (undertaken by Marymead) Have a current Drivers Licence Have Comprehensive Motor Vehicle insurance Have a good sense of humour Have a caring and patient nature Are relatively active and can keep up with children and young people Can use initiative Are reliable and committed The following is desirable: First Aid certificate Previous experience in working with children Benefits: The benefits of this role include: Contributing to positive experiences for children impacted by disability Participating in fun activities Free on-site parking (Narrabundah) Developed Approved Student Placement and Volunteer Coordinator 13 December 16 KCP Coordinator 13 December 16 Reviewed Volunteer Role Description Page 2 of 2
