RVSM Monitoring Requirements • In May 2011, ICAO member states implemented a long-term RVSM monitoring policy requiring that aircraft operating within RVSM airspace complete a reoccurring monitoring flight in order to maintain their RVSM approval status. • The new requirements became applicable on 18 May 2011 and gave operators until 18 November 2012 to comply. • Operators must complete a RVSM monitoring flight every two years (or 1,000 hours of flight whichever is greater). • There was a surge in monitoring activity in 2012 due to the new requirements. • Demand for monitoring is currently increasing as operators are nearing their 1,000 hour interval. 2 RVSM Monitoring Compliance Methods • Aircraft Geometric Height Monitoring Element (AGHME) • Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Out • Global Positioning System-based Monitoring System (GMS)/E2GMU 3 RVSM Monitoring Compliance Methods Aircraft Geometric Height Monitoring Element (AGHME) • AGHME constellations are located at seven sites throughout the United States and Canada. • Aircraft must be RVSM approved and have an operational Mode S transponder. • If your aircraft is not currently listed in the Approvals Data Base, complete and send “US Operator Application for RVSM Monitoring” form to [email protected]. – Put “AGHME Monitoring Application” and aircraft registration number in subject line • Flight plan a route through the AGHME coverage area at a flight level between 290 and 410, inclusive. • Ensure the flight plan provides for straight and level flight operation through the AGHME coverage area. – Verify AGHME operational status prior to departure. 4 AGHME Constellation Locations Seven Sites in the United States and Canada 5 RVSM Monitoring Compliance Methods Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) Out • The FAA Separation Standards Analysis Branch (ANG-E61) is actively monitoring aircraft having Version 2 (DO-260B) ATC transponder capability. • This method is used to capture aircraft geometric height with respect to the WGS-84 datum which is used to derive altimetry system error values. • There are currently 634 operational ground stations within the US providing broad coverage for equipped aircraft. • Capability is established and automation for operator access is under development. 6 RVSM Monitoring Compliance Methods Global Positioning System-based Monitoring System (GMS) • The GMS is composed of the equipment and procedures to collect and process three required data elements: – – – Aircraft geometric height Pressure altitude or Mode C data Meteorological data • The GPS-based Monitoring Unit (GMU) is used to collect aircraft geometric height data onboard the monitoring flight. • Over 18,000 RVSM monitoring flights have been conducted since 1995 using 3 GMU generations. • Monitoring via GMU provides operators a flexible and cost-effective compliance option. • CSSI provides RVSM GMU monitoring services and E2GMU sales. 7 History of RVSM GMU Monitoring Equipment 1995 •GMU 2004 •EGMU 2013 2 •E GMU 3 Generations of GPS-based Monitoring Units E2GMU Installation E2GMU is World Ready with ARD • Altitude Recording Device (ARD) – – MODE C capture directly from Transponder No data coordination required from ATC or Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) E2GMU MODE C Data Capture with ARD • Altitude Recording Device ARD XPNDR: 2525 2525 2525 2 RECORDS E2GMU is Ready to Fly • E2GMU completely powered by 97 Wh internal Lithium Ion Polymer Battery 8 hours operation • Requires no STC • Compliant with 2015 IATA/ICAO Aircraft Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations Device E2GMU Monitoring Unit Assembly (MUA) E2GMU Android Tablet Charge Time Needed 4 Hours Maximum Run Time 6-8 Hours 3 Hours 8.5 Hours E2GMU Overview E2GMU Overview E2GMU Benefits • E2GMU kit is portable • Collapsible handle and rolling luggage wheels • Designed to fit in most aircraft overhead storage bins E2GMU Benefits • Customer Service Training and Mission Support – – – • Email [email protected] Phone 202-863-3686 On-site Equipment Training Services RVSM Regional Monitoring Agency (RMA) coordination – – – Asia-Pacific (APARMO) CARSAMMA (Caribbean-South America) NAARMO (North America) E2GMU Benefits • • • Quick to Install GPS Calibrated within 15 minutes Easy to Operate E2GMU Benefits • Intuitive Software and Simple Touchscreen operation E2GMU Design Benefits • E2GMU RVSM Data is stored in Tablet memory • RVSM Data can be transferred from Tablet: – – – – – – Wireless Network (Wi-Fi) Portable Hot Spot Cell Phone Tethering Bluetooth PC USB ports Micro SD Card E2GMU Design Benefits • E2GMU Tablet can transfer RVSM Data files with Applications from Google Play Store – – – – – Gmail Google Drive Dropbox Outlook Email E2GMU Design Benefits • Send the RVSM Data files with an email from E2GMU Tablet over Wi-Fi Cost Effective E2GMU Training • Self Paced Computer Based E2GMU Online Training and Troubleshooting • Computer Based E2GMU Training has successfully trained over 20 E2GMU partner companies located in the US, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, Thailand, etc. RVSM Data & Altitude Requirements • RVSM flight levels – – • 29,000 feet to 41,000 feet, inclusive Straight and Level Flight data E2GMU designed to collect aircraft HeightKeeping Performance data independent of aircraft systems 24 E2GMU Provides RVSM Data Components for ASE GPS MODE C E2GMU E2GMU ARD GPS Pressure Altitude RMA Calculate RVSM RVSM Data Required Description Data Source GPS Position and Elevation Records of Aircraft Height performance in RVSM airspace E2GMU GPS MODE C Records of Aircraft reported Altitude in RVSM airspace E2GMU ARD Pressure Altitude of Area Records of RVSM airspace Meteorological Data Regional Monitoring Agency (RMA) Altimetry System Error (ASE) 25 E2GMU RVSM Flight Requirements RVSM data collected for minimum 30 minutes during Straight and Level flight between FL290 and FL410 stratum RVSM Flight Operation 40,000 30,000 20,000 Altitude in Feet 10,000 0 0:05 0:10 0:15 0:20 0:25 0:30 0:35 0:40 0:45 0:50 0:55 1:00 1:05 1:10 • E2GMU Hardware Installation Altitude Recording Device (ARD) E2GMU Satellite Reception Status Acquiring GPS GPS Position Set Ready to Fly E2GMU Application Detail CSSI RVSM Monitoring Market Leadership CSSI U.S. RVSM Monitoring Provider Network NASA T38 Monitoring CSSI Contact Information • RVSM Monitoring Services and E2GMU Sales – Carol Clarke – Email: [email protected] – Phone: 866-468-8111 Sources: enter sources here 34
