Wow! 2016 has been a great year for growth. In our last edition of the Breeze, BayPort

The Perfect Gift
Ever wonder what to get that person on your list
that has everything? Or maybe that one that is so
trendy, you can’t keep up with what they liked last
month, much less predict what they might be into
next month?
So what is the best type of gift for those people in
your life...GIFT CARDS! Some may think gift cards are
less personable than other gifts. But we say, what can
be more personable than allowing someone to pick out
exactly what they want or need. If you are in need of
some gift cards for those special people in your life, stop by one of our branches and select the
perfect gift ... card!
Avoid Overspending This Holiday Season
Every year I say, “I will NOT overspend this holiday season. I WILL stick to my budget.” And then in January, I beat myself up
as I log into my account to see the piddly little balance left after a month of shopping, spending, and swiping my credit card.
Well this year is different, darn it! And here are just a few tips I’m going to use to make it happen.
Set a Budget
I’ve tried this tip before, albeit not always successfully. Unfortunately, once I had my budget in place, I began shopping without
further developing my plan. If I follow the tips below, setting a realistic budget and sticking to it should be a lot easier. Plus,
BayPort offers MasterCard® Prepaid Reloadable cards that can also help.
Make a List
Have you ever popped into the drug store because you are out of lotion or need to grab a birthday card and $50 later, you
are walking out with two bags full of stuff you didn’t even know you needed? So just imagine how quickly that kind of shopping
strategy can get out of hand when shopping for family and
friends. What started out as sticking to buying gifts for a small
group of people has ballooned into family, friends, coworkers,
your favorite barista, the nice young man that works at the
grocery store…and the list goes on and on. Preparing a list with
whom you are buying for and how much you would like to
spend can keep you and your budget on track.
Always Use the Right Credit Card
Many stores offer their own store credit cards with special
incentives. But sometimes the interest rates on those cards
are pretty high. If you will not be paying off that balance right
away, you may find a better deal using your credit union credit
card instead. Some even offer special rates during the holidays
like BayPort. If you use your BayPort MasterCard® credit card
between November 1 – December 31, 2016, all purchases will
receive a 3.99% APR* promotional rate
that will remain in effect until your statement closing date in December of 2017.
Plus you will still earn points or get cash
back based on the type of BayPort credit
card you use.
There are many tips and tricks out
there to help you curb spending during
the holidays. You just have to find the
right formula for you. For more tips on
budgeting, check out the BayPort Blog
at www.bayportcu.org, or visit a BayPort
branch and speak with a representative.
*Offer valid on purchases made from 11-01-2016 to 12-312016. Promotional rate good through statement closing date
of December 2017. Certain restrictions apply.
