Monthly Gathering: On 2nd Wednesday of each month DINNER @ 6:00 pm MEETING @ 7:15 pm @ TJ’s Amber Restaurant, Tri- County Plaza, 1500 Canton Road, 330-733-9611 By Paul and Janice Delisle Happy Riding Season to all. Hi gang. It’s been a busy couple months for the Delisle family. After several operations and lots of travel time, it appears that we are finally able to take a breath. My thanks to all those in Chapter T who have stepped up and filled the void. Michael has set up a couple great rides. Ray and Shelly have stepped up again to help out. Fred and Peg our couple of the year, and every-one else, Thank you so much. Plus a great big thank you to Joe and Shelly for taking up the slack. You all should be proud that they are handling everything and the chapter is not missing a beat. On my travels out west, I saw plenty of motor cycle riders. Groups of young folks riding crotch rockets, glad to see they wore helmets. Most of them road their bikes way too fast and way above their skill level. I saw lots and lots of Harley riders. Believe it or not, most wore helmets and rode in a pretty safe manner. And while most of my time was spent taking care of my son, I did get a chance to meet some Goldwing folks. KS Chapter F(F troop) could easily be from Ohio. It seems like GWRRA people are basically the same type of people no matter what state they are from. They, like us, ride for fun friendship and safety. I talked to a group filling up at a gas station. If only I had my wing under me!!! This past weekend we were in Wrightsville beach for Jan’s youngest daughter’s wedding. I talked to some Harley riders and they complained about the heat. We should be so lucky here. The group I spoke to at a gas station did not wear helmets because of the heat. They all had their heads uncovered. I guess the asphalt is softer in North Carolina. On our way home, we stopped in Tamarac plaza in WV. I fueled up while the gals went inside to buy things we didn’t need. I parked next to a group of 8 mixed bikes. There were some rice rockets, a couple of wings and two Harleys. A group of young men were getting ready to take off. They ALL had protective gear and helmets. (even the Harley guys). I took a few minutes to bs with them. They are all good friends and ride together all the time. Seems that the wing owners are GWRRA members and have passed on good habits to their friends. Kudos to all wing owners who not only practice what we preach, but pass along good advice to others. Remember it’s all about the ride!!! Paul and Janice Delisle Hello Everyone Well we finally got the riding season started, and it looks like we will not need the boats after all. The rain has finally slowed down so we have actually had some nice riding days, and I hope you have had the chance to take advantage of them. We had a nice ride down to the Velvet ice cream festival and bike show, we had ten bikes show up for the ride (0r was it for the free bagels?). If you missed it the Chapter bought bagels for all those who came out for the ride. We had a great day for the ride and Mike and Carol did a good job leading us down there and a special thanks goes out to Ray and Shelley for guiding us around the parade. We all had a great time and I think we learned to always check our tires before we mount up. I had checked mine before we left the house and they were good, but when we started to leave to come home a fellow rider pointed out that my back tire was very low. It turns out the tire stem was bad you never know when something is going to go, so it is best to always check before you mount your ride. This month will be a busy one with lots of opportunities to ride and have fun with the Chapter and to see old friends from other Chapters. We have the Buckeye Rally coming up June 16th thru the 18th. I hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you and all of our friends form the other Chapters there. Then the very next weekend on the 25th we have the Wingnut Challenge. It is one of the rides Shelly and I always look forward to, as you never know what to expect, (Marriage Counselors may be available at the end of the ride) LOL. After that ride we have Wing Ding 33 in Knoxville, TN, July 6th thru the 9th and as many rides as we can get in between. Ride safe, Ride smart, and keep the shiny side up, we are looking forward to seeing you at these events and look forward to all the fun. Closing Words: Good luck keeps you happy. Worries keep you human, failures make you humble. Success makes you grow. And FRIENDS are the ones that keep you going! Ride Safe Joe and Shelly Keller FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR: I would just like to say how honored I am to get this chance to do the newsletter for Chapter T. I finally had to stop changing things around so Mike could get it posted. I know with your help we will keep working on it until we get it right. I welcome any suggestions and especially if you have something you want to put in the newsletter, please send it to me. I would like to be able to have the newsletter finished in time for the monthly meetings, so please have any articles or letters to me within the first week of the month. If anyone has some current pictures of some of our events please send them too. I look forward to getting out on some rides and seeing everyone. Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads. Shelly Keller I do not have an article for this month, but I look forward to seeing everyone at Buckeye Rally and Wingding. Chuck Pangburn A Little Bit of Sunshine By Peg and Fred Nichols We hope by the time you read this the sunshine will have returned to our area. Today it is hot, humid and down right ugly. Recently I have received thank you notes from Janice Delisle and Joy Miller for the flowers we sent after their recent surgeries. Both of these ladies are doing fine and trying to get back to normal activities. We also received a thank you from Marlene Isom. The chapter made a donation to Flashes of Hope in memory of her brother who passed away recently. June birthdays: 13 Fred Fish 14 Debra Cunard 15 Susan Pangburn 16 Bob Saffles 26 Andie Dorsey 27 Mike Stephenson June anniversaries 13 Fred and Bonnie Fish 21 Ron and Sharon Abate 21 Keith and Vickie Williams That's it for me this month. I will keep the chapter up to date later. The June mystery ride was let by Fred and Bonnie Fish. Eight (8) bikes and two cars had a great night to travel to the English Pub in Ravenna. There will be no mystery ride for July because of the holiday and WING DING. Please plan on riding to the mystery destination in August. The leaders will be Paul and Janice Delisle. The first annual Maintenance Day held May 21 at our home in Hartville was great. We had 7 bikes, 16 grownups from Chapter T and 4 grandchildren. The work went well with the help of Ron Abate and Keith Williams. THANKS GUYS!! Peg and I are looking forward to hosting this event next year. Chuck also talked about making sure you get what you pay for – several members reported issues with dealerships not doing maintenance and charging as if they did. After he got his bike home, Chuck noticed his new bike has the wrong antenna. AMA Coordinator – Did you know…. you are able to ride a motorcycle in the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane? That AMA helped create the Federal Recreational Trails Program? AMA Supports the Motorcycle Hall of Fame? That AMA monitored 1380 pieces of legislation in all 50 states and Washington D.C. during 2010? Hill also talked about an NBC News investigation into gasoline in the NE Ohio area. Technical Talk By Chuck and Marlene Isom Hello Chapter T Family, As most of you know, we now have a new RED 2010 Honda Goldwing and anxious to ride with our Chapter T friends. The number one cause of vehicle breakdown is due to battery failure. I think most people fail to check this vital part of their motorcycle. Checking the battery: If you ride during the winter, the motorcycle battery needs to work up to three times as hard to start the engine and the colder it is outside, the less power the battery has. The challenge leaves the engine with less energy but more power required. Battery problems result from both the battery itself and the charging system. If the battery is loose it will vibrate and rattle around, breaking off some of the material that helps produce electricity and reducing efficiency. The battery charging system also plays an important role. If it is not charging enough, the battery won’t be fully charged. If it is charging too much, the battery will overheat and wear out faster. Fortunately, it is easy to detect problems. Most repair shops and auto centers have equipment to test battery power and tell how long a battery will last. At a lot of shops, this service is free. Now is a good time to schedule a check to find out if winter has increased stress or caused any problems. Safeguard your motorcycle: Motorcycles are most often stolen for resale, for parts, or merely for a joy ride. Consequently, just because you may not have the newest and best make and model, doesn’t mean you won’t be a target. In addition to the motorcycle security system of choice, the honking alarm, there are a number of things a motorcycle owner can do to keep their motorcycle safe. Immobilizers are one effective way to stop thieves. These are electronic devices which automatically arm when a vehicle is turned off. They prevent the vehicle from being started and ridden away until the proper key or code is used to disarm them. An immobilizer cuts off at least three primary circuits, such as the starter, ignition, and the fuel supply. Most auto shops can install an immobilizer quite easily. Another interesting safety option is to install a tracking system. Consider making a security investment in your motorcycle to keep it safe. Another blonde joke!! This has to be one of the best blonde jokes I’ve heard. This will make all you technologically challenged people feel good. A young man wanted to get his beautiful blonde wife, Susie, something nice for their first wedding anniversary. So he decided to buy her a cell phone. He showed her the phone and explained to her all of its features. Susie was excited to receive the gift and simply adored her new phone. The next day Susie went shopping. Her phone rang and, to her astonishment, it was her husband on the other end. Hi Susie, he said, how do you like your new phone? Susie replied, I just love it! It’s so small and your voice is clear as a bell, but there’s one thing I don’t understand though. What’s that, sweetie? Asked her husband. How did you know I was at Wal-Mart???? We really had a good time at Fred & Peg’s bike maintenance day. I’m surprised that more of you did not show up. With the cost of changing oil and maintenance on your bike at the dealership, this is a good opportunity for you to learn how to do a lot of that stuff by yourself. It is not rocket science, folks. It has already been announced that we will have this event again next year. Be sure to put this on your calendar and plan to attend. That’s all folks, see you soon.
